Senior Spotlight: Alayne Thompson

Alayne Thompson

As the 2017 Cal State Fullerton women's volleyball season comes to an end, FullertonTitans.com prepares to honor its final senior. She's a 5-11 outside hitter from Torrance, California and a first year transfer from El Camino College. Ladies and gentlemen, it's time to recognize Alayne Thompson.

While the 2017 campaign was just her first year with the Titans, she certainly made her presence felt. She played in 11 total matches and 27 sets, while recording six kills and a couple of digs. She totaled 13.5 points on the season.

Alayne will graduate this year with her degree in kinesiology.

FullertonTitans.com: This might have been just your first season at Cal State Fullerton, but you certainly had a huge impact. What are your thoughts on your time here?

Thompson: I couldn't have had a better time and I'm so blessed to be able to have had this opportunity. I'm walking away with so many new friendships and experiences.

FullertonTitans.com: Talk about your recruiting process a little bit. Yours was obviously a little different than most.

Thompson: My recruiting was very unique. I'm a walk on, so I chose this school completely based on the educational experience I was going to get here. Then I figured, hey why not give volleyball another shot. I tried out and Coach Preston gave me this great opportunity. I feel so blessed to be here.

FullertonTitans.com: What's been your favorite moment this season?

Thompson: I think the Hawai'i road trip was such a cool experience. Not only was it a great team-bonding experience, but playing in that arena is such a once in lifetime thing. That atmosphere was incredible. I'm so happy I was able to be a part of that.

FullertonTitans.com: What was the biggest difference playing at El Camino College and then coming to play Division I volleyball here at Cal State Fullerton?

Thompson: The speed of the game for sure. The speed of the game is a little faster at the DI level. The coaching staff did a great job of helping me get adjusted, but definitely the speed of the game is the biggest difference.

FullertonTitans.com: What's your favorite place to hang out on campus?

Thompson: Wow, that's a hard one! I'd actually say the locker room. It's incredible! It has couches and beanbags. It's a great place to go take a little nap. In terms of where everyone else can go, I'd say the student union. That place is awesome!
