FULLERTON, Calif.--- The Cal State Fullerton women's volleyball team will hold its annual Alumni Match this Saturday at noon PT inside Titan Gym. This will be fans first opportunity to catch the Titans in action this season before they get their regular season campaign underway.
Admission to the scrimmage is FREE of charge.
While Saturday will mark the first public appearance for the Titans this season, the match will be the second time the team has played together has as a unit. Fullerton took on LMU in a closed-door scrimmage on Tuesday up in Los Angeles.
The Titans have a veteran led squad, as Fullerton returns 10 athletes from last year's team, including three seniors and six juniors.
Junior outside hitter Shimen Fayad returns after earning Big West Honorable Mention honors last season.
The native of Victoria, B.C., led the Titans and ranked ninth in the Big West averaging 3.17 kills per game. In addition, Fayad's 0.27 service aces per set led Fullerton and ranked eighth in the league.
She led Fullerton with 14 double-doubles during the season.
Fayad played in 104 of 106 sets during the year, and finished second on the squad with 302 digs while adding 63 blocks.
The Titans also sport a group of seven newcomers, who will look to inject life into a program already on the upswing under third year head coach Ashley Preston, producing a six-game improvement from a year ago.
Before the scrimmage, the Titans will host their annual Welcome Back fundraiser beginning with a brunch at 9:30 am PT inside Titan Gym. Tickets are $60 and all proceeds will directly benifit the Cal State Fullerton women's volleyball program. Click here to register.
Fullerton opens up the regular season with the Titan Tournament, where the Titans will host Fairleigh Dickinson, Drake and Bryant on August 25th and 26th. CSF will open up with Fairleigh Dickinson at 11 am PT.
