FULLERTON, Calif. – The Cal State Fullerton women's volleyball program will play a 30-match schedule during the 2017 season, featuring 15 home matches and two tournaments played at Titan Gym, head coach Ashley Preston announced on Thursday.
The Titans kick off the 2017 slate with the annual Blue/Orange match on Saturday, August 19 at Titan Gym, serving as the first opportunity for fans to see the Titans in action.
The regular season gets underway the following weekend, as the Titans will host the Titan Tournament, featuring Fullerton's season opener vs. Drake on August 25 at 11 am inside Titan Gym. Drake finished 12-15 overall and 8-10 in the Missouri Valley Conference, while winning two of its last three matches in 2016.
Fullerton will conclude the event with a match later that day vs. Farleigh Dickinson and a contest vs. Bryant on August 26th. The Bulldogs went 19-15 overall and finished with a 10-4 record in conference play, advancing to the Northeast Conference semifinals.
The Titans will continue their season long six-game homestand with matches against Chicago State on Sept. 1 and San Jose State and Southern Utah on Sept. 2.
Fullerton will then hit the road for a season-long six consecutive matches away from home, beginning with the Towson Tournament on Sept. 7-9th. The Titans open up the event with host Towson on Sept. 7 and then take on Lafayette (Sept. 8), Eastern Michigan (Sept. 9) and Quinnipiac (Sept. 9) to conclude the tournament.
The Titans then wrap up non-conference play at the Indiana State Tournament, where they'll take on host Indiana State on Sept. 15 and Eastern Illinois on Sept. 16.
Fullerton then begins Big West play with a home game vs. CSUN on Sept. 19 at Titan Gym. It'll finish the regular season at Cal Poly on Nov. 18. Fullerton takes on the defending Big West Champions twice, as it'll play a home match vs. Hawaii on Sept. 29 and play at Hawaii on Oct. 21.
Five Matches to Watch For in 2017
1. Aug. 25 vs. Drake: The Titans will officially open their third side under head coach Ashley Preston. The Titans will aim to claim a win in their season opener for the first time since 2014.
2. Sept. 7 at Towson: Fullerton will play its first road contest of 2017 after opening the season with straight home affairs. The Tigers finished with a 24-9 record a season ago and compiled a 10-6 league mark in the Colonial Athletic Association and advancing to the CAA Tournament semifinals.
3. Sept 19 vs. CSUN: Cal State Fullerton opens its Big West campaign against the Matadors at Titan Gym.
4. Sept. 29 vs. Hawaii: Fullerton will take on the one of the best teams in the nation in front of its home crowd. Hawaii enters 2017 as the defending Big West Champions. It advanced to the NCAA Tournament and finished the year ranked 12th in the nation.
5. Oct. 17 vs. Long Beach State: The rivalry between the 49ers and the Titans is renewed.
