FULLERTON, Calif. - Cal State Fullerton remained winless on the season after falling to UC Davis 3-0 (25-18, 25-23, 25-14) in a Big West Conference tilt Saturday night at Titan Gym.
The Titans (0-20, 0-8) hit just .061 for the match while the Aggies (10-12, 5-3) tallied 44 kills on the night with a .291 attacking percentage.
Kyra Hill led the team with 11 kills and Kandace Thomas added nine while Mackenzie Olsen dished out 29 assists with seven digs. Paige Reed was one of three Titans in double figures with a season-high 21 digs. Megann Delgado added 12 and Rachel Brown posted 10 in the loss.
Kaylin Squyres led all players with 14 kills and posted a .314 (14-3-35) attacking percentage to go along with 10 digs. Sophia Mar dished out 38 helpers and Malia Bolka led the defense with 24 digs on the night.
In the opening set, the teams went back and forth early as they traded the lead three times and were tied on five occasions. The Aggies used a 6-1 scoring run to take the lead for good.
The second frame saw the Titans hold the lead for the first half of the set. Fullerton led 14-11 at one point but the Aggies got three straight kills from Moore to tie the score. The teams traded points to make the score 16-16 when the Aggies ran off five of the next six points to take a four-point lead. But a couple of errors by the Aggies and a kill from Delgado brought the Titans within a point and Fullerton would tie the score at 23-23. But Squyres put the Aggies ahead with a kill and then an attacking error by the Titans put Fullerton in an 0-2 hole.
The third set had the teams trading points through the early portion but an 8-2 scoring run by the Aggies, capped off by an attacking error by the Titans, put the set and the match away.
The Titans will travel to Hawai'i on Nov. 1 to take on the nationally ranked Rainbow Wahine and will then return home to Titan Gym to take on Long Beach State on Nov. 4 and UC Riverside on Nov. 7.
