FULLERTON, Calif. – The Cal State Fullerton women's volleyball program has signed Kyra Smith to a National Letter of Intent, head coach Carolyn Zimmerman announced Wednesday.

"Kyra comes to Cal State Fullerton with a strong volleyball pedigree," Zimmerman said. "At Marymount High School and at Mizuno Volleyball Club she has grown accustomed to winning. She has trained and played along side really good players and expects to win championships. 

Smith recently finished off her senior season playing for the Marymount Sailors of the Mission League and helped the team secure its 13th consecutive league title. The middle blocker tallied nine kills and 13 blocks against Notre Dame High School of Sherman Oaks to help the Sailors clinch the Mission League title. Smith earned an All-Mission League First Team selection as a senior.

The Inglewood, Calif. native helped lead the Sailors to the CIF-Southern Section Division 1AA quarterfinals in 2014 and was stellar in the team's two postseason victories. Smith tallied 10 kills and seven blocks in the team's victory over Newport Harbor in the first round and added six more blocks in Marymount's victory over Bishop Montgomery.

"She is a very physical player and has the ability to score points both offensively and with her block," Zimmerman said. "I see her making big strides this club season and contributing immediately for the Titans. I am excited about Kyra, she is a quality young lady who already displays a team first attitude and leadership qualities that will impact our program. 

Smith will enroll at Cal State Fullerton for the 2015-16 academic year.
