2014 Women's Volleyball Schedule (PDF)
FULLERTON, Calif. – The Cal State Fullerton women's volleyball program is set to play a 29-match schedule in 2014 and will host a pair of tournaments, it was announced by head coach Carolyn Zimmerman on Friday.
"I am very excited about our schedule for 2014," Zimmerman said. "It consists of some very challenging teams. The schedule will match us up against some quality RPI opponents. I believe our preseason tournaments will perfectly prepare us for the Big West Conference season."
The Titans are scheduled to open the season with the Titan Classic on Friday, Aug. 29 at Titan Gym, facing Bucknell (10-16, 3-13 Patriot League) on opening night.
Fullerton will close out the Titan Classic with a pair of matches on Aug. 30, starting with a matchup against Sacred Heart (15-16, 8-5 Northeast Conference). The Titans will then wrap up the tourney with a nightcap against Texas Tech of the Big 12 Conference.
Following opening weekend at home, the Titans will hit the road for the next two weekends of the season, starting with the San Diego State Tournament on Sept. 5. Fullerton opens the competition against Northwestern (16-16, 8-12 Big Ten). It will be the first ever meeting between the Titans and Wildcats.
Fullerton will then face off against Villanova and Brown on day two of the tourney. The Titans have played just one match against each of those teams, scoring victories on each occasion. Fullerton will close out the weekend with a match against hosts San Diego State on Sunday, Sept. 7. It will be the 39th meeting all-time between the teams with the Aztecs holding a 33-5 edge, having beaten the Titans the last two times they've met.
On Sept. 12, the Titans head to the College of Charleston tournament where they will open the tourney with a match against Stetson of the Atlantic Sun Conference, another squad the Titans will face for the first time ever in 2014. Fullerton will close out the tournament on Sept. 13 with matches against Wake Forest and hosts College of Charleston.
The Titans return to Titan Gym on Sept. 19 to host the annual Fullerton Classic to close out their non-conference schedule, opening the weekend against Yale, the six-time Ivy League champions and winners of four straight conference titles. The Bulldogs went 20-5 in 2013 and 13-1 in conference to advance to the NCAA Tournament. They will be the first of four opponents on the Titans 2014 schedule that advanced to the NCAA Tournament in 2013 and the only non-conference opponent to do so. It will also be the Titans second meeting all-time against the Bulldogs, the last coming in 2010 when the Titans defeated Yale at the Fullerton Classic.
On Sept. 20, the Titans will meet Georgetown in their early match before closing out the tourney with a nightcap against UCLA. The Titans and Bruins will be meeting for the 17th time and will be in search for their second win over the Bruins all-time. The Titans defeated UCLA in five sets in 2009 at the Fullerton Classic.
The Titans begin their 16-match Big West Conference schedule on Sept. 26 when they welcome 2013 conference tri-champions Cal State Northridge to Titan Gym. The Matadors finished with a 13-3 record in the Big West along with UC Santa Barbara and Hawaii to claim a three-way split of the conference title and advance to the NCAA Tournament.
The Titans follow that match with a home contest against Long Beach State before going on the road for the first time in conference to take on the Rainbow Wahine in Honolulu.
Fullerton's longest road stretch during Big West play in 2014 starts on Nov. 7 when they head to UC Santa Barbara for the first of three straight road matches which also include stops at Cal Poly and UC Davis.
The team's final home game of the season comes on Nov. 22 as they host Orange-County rival UC Irvine at Titan Gym before closing out the regular season with a pair of road matches at Cal State Northridge and Long Beach State on Nov. 28 and 29 respectively.
Cal State Fullerton finished the 2013 season with an overall record of 11-17 and finished eighth in the Big West with a mark of 4-12.
