Fullerton Beats Long Beach 4-3

FULLERTON, Calif. – The Titans are now 3-0 in Big West Conference play after their 4-3 win over Long Beach State.

Cal State Fullerton (6-2) stays undefeated in conference play after today's win. After their win against UC Davis and Hawai'i, the Titans were able to beat Long Beach State.
This marks the second consecutive win of the Titans over Long Beach State after last season's win during regular season.
The Titans are now on a four-match winning streak and improves their home record to 5-1 for this season.

DOUBLES
The Titans started the day off the right foot after Luxizi Meng and Eira Tobrand picked up the first doubles win at No.3 over LBSU duo of Emma Bardet and Zara Lennon.

Long Beach State responded quickly and picked up the win on Court No.1. Wiktoria Rutkowska and Dominique Meyer dominated our Titans 6-4.

It all came down to Court No.2 where Caisey Lee Emery and Masako Makiba were facing LBSU's Natalia Munoz and Lalita Devarakonda. Despite a great effort form the Titans to make a comeback in this game, Long Beach got the first dual match point of the day.

SINGLES
Karla Portalatin led the charge for the Titans as she quickly started dominating her opponent on Court No.1. Portalatin did not waste any time and gave Fullerton its first point of the day with her 6-2,6-2 over Wiktoria Rutkowska.

At No.2, Sarah Nuno also got a great start winning the first set 6-4. Playing with the same intensity in the second set, Nuno gave the Titans the lead for the first time of the day with her 6-4,6-4 win over French athlete Emma Bardet.

Caisey Lee Emery had a great battle with Zara Lennon on Court No.4. Lennon picked up the first set 6-4. In the second set, Emery played better and pushed her opponent to a tiebreaker. Unfortunately, Lennon won the tiebreaker 7-5 and helped Long Beach tie the match back up to 2-2.

Genevieve Zeidan gave the lead back to the Titans after her two-set win over Natalia Munoz. Zeidan showed composure in important moments of the game. She was able to win both sets in the tiebreaker: 7-6(5),7-6(8).

Fullerton just needed one more point to get the win. Eira Tobrand was the one to get that clinching point with a great come back. She lost the first set 4-6 before winning the second 6-4 and the third 6-3.

Luxizi Meng was the last one on the courts and also pushed her opponent to a third set but could not get the win.

UP NEXT
The Titans will be back in action this Sunday at 11am P.T. to face Youngstown State. The match was initially scheduled for 12:30pm P.T. but has been moved to earlier due to the weather forecast.
