LONG BEACH, Calif. – The Matador tournament ended this Saturday with the Titans bringing two more wins home. Eira Tobrand and Jadie Acidera bounced back from their defeat in first round.
Short weekend for the Titans at the Matador Invitational tournament this weekend. This Saturday, the tournament initially hosted by CSUN was delayed and moved to Long Beach State University to assure the safety of the players. The air quality was too poor due the recent fires in the region.
This Sunday, the decision was taken to cancel all matches for the same reason.
On Saturday, the Titans kept their focus on the courts and were able to come back home with two more wins.
Jadie Acidera and Eira Tobrand were both competing the Singles C consolation bracket after losing in the first round on Friday. Looking to bounce back, the two Titans did just that as they both outplayed their opponent in two sets.
Acidera was facing Laura Malsert from San Jose State University and ended the weekend with a 6-3,6-4 win.
Tobrand made it look easy with her 6-1,7-5 win over Dominique Meyer from rival Long Beach State University.
Petra Such who had a great Friday with three wins could not make it past Yougnstown State Elvira Herranz Esteo in the second round. Such won the first set 6-3 but let her opponent tie the game by winning the second set with the same score. The super tiebreaker saw Esteo stronger as she won 10-3.
Luxizi Meng fought hard in the first set but came up short 7-5, before losing the second set 6-3 against Azusa Pacific Jacqueline Wagner.
Tiani Jadulang faced Cassandra Moraleja from Youngtown State and lost the game 6-2,6-2.
No doubles were played after Friday due to the poor air quality.
The Titans will be back on the courts next semester in the Spring by hosting the CSUF Spring Invite Tournament on Jan 18-20. This will be the last tournament before dual matches begin.
