Fullerton Ranked No. 7 in Southwest Regional Rankings

ITA Tennis Rankings 

FULLERTON, Calif. – Cal State Fullerton women's tennis finished the year at the No. 7 spot in the Southwest Regional rankings released by ITA Tennis. In singles ranking, freshman Genevieve Zeidan finished the year ranked at No. 17.

In the overall rankings, Fullerton finished at No. 81. 

Cal State Fullerton women's tennis made history for the third straight year in a row, recording a phenomenal 20-6 (6-2 BWC) overall record. Fullerton finished the 2017-18 campaign by making it to the program's first Big West Tournament Championship match. The Titans fell short against Hawai'i as the suffered a 4-2 loss. 

Fullerton's 20 win season is the most recorded wins in program history. The program advanced to their first Big West Championship match after defeating Cal Poly 4-0 in the semifinals round. The Titans are now 1-1 in semifinal play during the Big West Conference Tournament.

Zeidan provided a huge contribution to the program's success going an overall 20-6 in dual play and went 6-2 in conference play at the No. 1 spot for the Titans. Zeidan nabbed the program's first Big West Conference Freshman of the Year award. Zeidan was honored as Big West Player of the Week for the week of 3/14 and found a spot on the Big West All-Conference First Team in singles play.

Fullerton welcomed back their dynamic duo of Sarah Nuno and Karla Portalatin, both in their junior years. The two recorded a dual play record of 17-5 on court number one for the Titans. Both Nuno and Portalatin were honored by the Big West Conference earning All-Conference First-Team in singles and doubles play.

Portalatin is one of five athletes to be selected to the Dominican Republic team for the Fed Cup. The event is known as the World Cup of Tennis. Portalatin's squad is in Zone A along with five other teams. Those six teams will compete in Metepec, Mexico on June 18-23. The winners of each pool will play-off to determine which nation from Metepec will advance to Americas Zone Group I in 2019.

Coach Dianne Matias finished her fifth year with the Titan Tennis program. She owns an overall coaching record of 81-58 and 74-43 mark while with Fullerton.
