Fullerton Conquers Long Beach State 4-2 to Nab No.3 Seed in Big West

LONG BEACH, Calif. – After 23 consecutive losses to Long Beach State, Fullerton finally snapped the drought and prevailed with a 4-2 win over the 49ers on Friday. 

With the win, Fullerton moves to 19-5 (6-2), while Long Beach drops to 11-9, (5-3). Cal State Fullerton is now tied for second in the Big West Conference standings as the stage is set for the Big West Tournament held in Indian Wells, Calif. Fullerton will claim the number three seed as UC Davis defeated Fullerton (3/28)

To begin the day, the Titans nabbed the doubles point early to get the lead. On doubles court number three, Lena Pacholski and Sadaf Sadeghvaziri defeated Danielle Pham and Masako Makiba 6-1.

The Titans bounced back to claim courts two and one for the win. Genevieve Zeidan and Jadie Acidera took care of Carlota Casasampere and Georgia Gulin 6-2.

Sarah Nuno and Karla Portalatin secured the point for the Titans when they took down Lalita Devarakonda and Natalia Muñoz 6-1 on court number one. 

Long Beach managed to tie the game as singles play commenced when Sadeghvaziri beat Caisey Lee Emery 6-1, 6-1.

Nuno quickly took down Muñoz 6-0,6-4 to put the Titans back on top. Jadie Acidera also found a win over Carlota Casasampere in two sets 7-5, 6-2 on court number six. Acidera finished the season 5-0 on court six. 

Pacholski found a win for the 49ers as she beat out Zeidan on court one, 4-6, 6-3, 6-3. 

To clinch the victory for the Titans and secure the 18th win of the season was Portalatin as she defeated Maren Helgo in two sets 7-5, 7-5.

Fullerton is on track to receive the first-round bye and compete in day two of the Big West Tournament on Apr. 27. Cal State Fullerton finishes the regular season with 18 wins, the number of wins earned during the historical 2016-17 campaign.
