Fullerton to Take on CSUN and Loyola Marymount

FULLERTON, Calif. – Cal State Fullerton returns to another event-filled weekend as they take on CSUN and Loyola Marymount. Fullerton will compete in conference play Friday at 1:30 p.m. against CSUN. Saturday, the Titans take on LMU at 10:00 a.m.

OPPONENTS AND HISTORY

Feb. 16 | 1:30 p.m. PT | Titan Tennis Courts | CSUN

Both the Titans and Matadors come into Friday's match at 1-0 in the conference.  CSUN defeated Cal Poly 5-2 on Feb. 11. Overall the Matadors are 1-2 for the season. Last year when the two teams met, Fullerton swept Northridge 4-0 on Apr. 15. The teams faced off again in the Big West Quarterfinals where CSUN fell to Fullerton 4-3.

Feb. 17 | 10:00 a.m. PT | LMU Tennis Center | Loyola Marymount

Fullerton takes on Loyola Marymount who has proven strong in the latest rankings provided by the ITA. Miroshnichenko sits at the No. 22 spot in singles, while Voracek checks in at No. 105. The duo is also the No. 24 pair on the doubles side. The last time the two teams faced off, the Titans pulled through with a 4-1 win. The Lions are currently 1-1 overall for the season.

SETTING A STREAK
Fullerton is riding a four-match win streak that began on Jan. 28 when the Titans defeated Marshall 4-1. The Titans have kept their past opponents to one point in each match. Cal State Fullerton sits at 5-1 (1-0) for the season.

CONFERENCE COMPETITION
Fullerton opened conference play with a dominant 6-1 win over UC Riverside on Feb. 3. The Titans capitalized and swept the doubles matches to earn the point to put the Titans in the lead and then proceeded to take five of the six singles matches.  

SISTER ACT
The Titans' season opener (1/18) marked the beginning of a new era for the Valenzuela sisters. Alexis Valenzuela returned to the courts as the new volunteer coach, while sister, Taylor, embarked on her first match as a Titan.

NEW KIDS ON THE BLOCK
Cal State Fullerton welcomed five incoming freshmen for the 2017-18 campaign, Caisey Lee Emery, Jadie Acidera, Tiani Jadulang, Taylor Valenzuela and Genevieve Zeidan. The group was ranked the ninth-best incoming class among mid-majors according to TennisRecruiting.net.

IN THE RANKINGS
Freshman Genevieve Zeidan continues to lead the charge for the Titans, she is currently a stellar 15-2 overall in singles play and 5-1 in dual match play. She is currently riding a two-match win streak. Zeidan enters this week ranked No. 97 in ITA Singles Poll. She moved up six spots after previously being placed at No. 103.  

FULLERTON'S DYNAMIC DUO
Sarah Nuno and Karla Portalatin are starting to come on strong for the Titans. The tandem is currently 14-2  overall in doubles play and 5-1 on court one in dual match action. The duo is currently riding a two-match win streak.

ABOUT DIANNE MATIAS
Matias enters her fifth year with the Titan Tennis program. She owns an overall coaching record of 66-53 and 59-38 mark while with Fullerton. She was named the Big West Conference Coach of the Year in 2016.
