NORTHRIDGE, Calif. – In the final day of the CSUN Matador Invitational, Freshmen Tiani Jadulang and Genevieve Zeidan took home big wins in the finals.
The day began in doubles play where Jadie Acidera and Luxizi Meng defeated Long Beach State's Gulin/Casasampere 6-2. Tiani Jadulang and Taylor Valenzuela, unfortunately, could not carry Saturday's success into the extra match on Sunday as they lost to Oral Robert's University tandem Mercado/Gisbert 6-1.
The junior tandem of Karla Portalatin and Sarah Nuno won the final match against CSUN's Van De Vondel/Alcon 6-4. The tandem wracks up another win to finalize their fall campaign.
Genevieve Zeidan and Caisey Lee Emery were unable to finish on a high note in doubles play as they suffered a loss to Iowa State's Freeman/Bonnadona 6-3.
In singles play, Luxizi Meng also won big over LBSU's Sadaf Sadeghvaziri 6-3, 3-6, 7-6(4). Valenzuela faced off against ORU's Mariia Kuzmynskia and loss 4-6, 6-0, 3-6.
Jadie Acidera got her win in the final round of singles over UCI's Danielle Garido 6-3, 6-0. Caisey Lee Emery defeated Azusa Pacific University's Jackie Resler 6-2, 6-0.
The Titans clashed in the final round of singles as Genevieve Zeidan took on Karla Portalatin. Zeidan earned the win over Portalatin 3 - 6, 6 - 2, 6 - 3. Zeidan has had extremely successful first run as she enters her first year at Cal State Fullerton.
Sarah Nuno also notched a win over ISU's Regina Espindola 6 -0, 1 - 6, 6 - 2. Tiani Jadulang played another extra round and won in a tiebreaker against Youngstown's Ana Stroe 6-3,3-6, 11-9.
The CSUN Matador Invitational wraps up fall tennis. The Titans take the courts again Thursday, Jan. 18 in Fullerton, Calif. against UC San Diego.
