IRVINE, Calif. --- Led by seniors Alexis Valenzuela and Camille De Leon, four members of the Cal State Fullerton women's tennis team were named to the 2017 Big West Women's Tennis All-Conference team, it was announced by the league on Thursday.
For the fourth-straight season, Valenzuela received Big West First Team honors, the only Titan to accomplish such a feat in the history of the program. In her four -year career with the Titans, Valenzuela boasts a 55-15 record in dual singles matches, including a 17-10 mark in the Big West Conference and a 51-13 career record when playing at the top of the order.
In 2017, the West Covina, Calif., native was 15-1 in singles play, 4-1 against Big West competition and ended the year on a six-match winning streak.
With doubles partner Camille De Leon, the pair was named to the Big West Conference Doubles First Team for the second year in a row. The duo is the only Titans doubles team to win first team honors more than once. Over the last two years the pair totaled a 30-4 record at No. 1 doubles, including a 16-2 mark in 2017, which is a new doubles record for the No. 1 team at Fullerton.
De Leon, who has won doubles conference honors for four-straight years, was named to the Big West Conference Singles Second Team after putting together a 12-4 season, mostly playing at No. 2 in the lineup for Fullerton. De Leon will depart Fullerton with a 54-29 singles mark. She has now earned singles all-league honors twice in her career.
Fullerton's No. 2 doubles team of Sarah Nuno and Karla Portalatin received Big West Conference doubles honorable mention accolades after finishing the year with a 17-4 record, including a 6-1 mark against league competition.
Fullerton ended its season with a 19-4 record, the best winning percentage (.826) and total number of wins in program history. The Titans also advanced to the semifinals of the Big West Conference Championship – a first for the program.
