CSUN Fall Invitational Day One (PDF)
FULLERTON, Calif. – The Cal State Fullerton women's tennis team totaled six wins on Friday during the first day of the CSUN Fall Invitational at Matador Tennis Complex, as sophomore Danielle Pham is just one win away from the title match in her draw.
An Irvine, Calif., native, Pham advanced from the round of 16 in Draw A with a 6-4, 6-2 victory over South Dakota State's Iamin Rosa. In the quarterfinals, Pham knocked out CSUN's Vivian Lin, 6-3, 6-1. Pham is scheduled to play CSUN's Skyla Alcon on Saturday in the semifinal match.
In Draw B, redshirt junior Emilia Borkowski moved to the quarterfinals with a 6-1, 6-4 over UC Santa Barbara's Klya Jarrar, but lost in the next round, 6-4, 7-5, to Long Beach State's Ella Monsey.
Freshman Carolen Faraji defeated UC San Diego's Nousha Nowamooz, 6-2, 6-1, before falling in the Draw C quarterfinals to Morgan Brower of South Dakota State, 6-2, 6-2.
Both Titan doubles teams picked up wins to advance to quarterfinal action on Saturday.
Borkowski and Pham, now 6-1 on the year, defeated Madison Hale and Alexandra Weil from UCSD, 8-4. Playing together for the first time in the fall, Fararji and Masako Makiba edged Nowamooz and Shannon Theisen of UCSD, 8-4.
