LONG BEACH, Calif. – Not one, but two Cal State Fullerton women's tennis doubles teams reached the finals match of their respective flights with semifinals wins on Saturday at the Beach Tennis Tournament hosted by Long Beach State.
Camille De Leon and Alexis Valenzuela are set to play Long Beach State's Laura Eales and Hayley Thompson on Sunday at 9 a.m., after an 8-4 win in the semifinals over Lana Macukat and Lana Rinaldi of Grand Canyon.
In addition, the Titan team of Emilia Borkowski and Danielle Pham defeated CSUN's Scout Shutterand and Mari Taslagyan, 8-5, in the semifinals, and on Sunday will play CSUN's Vivian Lin and Jessica Warren in the title match.
De Leon, Valenzuela and Borkowski each suffered quarterfinal losses in singles action, but freshman Sarah Nuno advanced to the semis with a 6-2, 6-2 victory over Portland State's Kelsey Frey before losing in the semis, 6-2, 6-4, to Long Beach State's Ebba Unden.
Pham advanced to the semifinals of the Flight C singles bracket, defeating Wisconsin's Kelsey Grambeau, 1-6, 6-1, 6-4 before falling short of a finals berth with a 6-3, 6-2 loss to Kristen Poei of CSUN.
Freshman Masako Makiba reached the consolation final for Sunday in Flight B after defeating Warren, 6-1, 6-2 and Kylie Waschuk of Grand Canyon, 6-1, 7-5.
