FULLERTON, Calif. – Less than a month away from beginning fall competition, third-year Cal State Fullerton women's tennis coach Dianne Matias has announced her schedule for the year.
The Titans will prep for the spring with same fall lineup as a year ago, playing in the Beach Tennis Tournament (Oct. 9-11), the ITA Southwest Regionals (Oct. 15-19), the CSUN Fall Invitational (Oct. 23-25) and the Jack Kramer Invitational (Nov. 5-8).
The first three fall competitions will offer the Titans matches against mostly regional opponents while the Jack Kramer Invitational in Palos Verdes, Calif., will play host to challengers from around the country.
"We're excited to start our fall season," Matias said. "Our goal is to utilize these tournaments to prepare for the spring and to continue to improve daily. The majority of our matches during the spring season are at Cal State Fullerton, and we will definitely use the home court advantage to our favor."
After ending fall competition in November, the Titans open the 2016 season hosting UC San Diego on Jan. 20 at Titan Tennis Courts, before traveling south for matches at San Diego State and San Diego.
In the month of February, Fullerton will be home just twice hosting Azusa Pacific (Feb. 3) and Cal State L.A. (Feb. 24), while playing on the road at Loyola Marymount, Pacific, UC Davis in the Big West season opener as well as UC Riverside.
In the month of March, the Titans will play a total of nine matches, as Hawai'i, Utah State, Colorado State, Wyoming, Nebraska and CSUN visit Titan Tennis Courts. Road matches at Nevada, Montana State (Reno, Nev.), and Seattle round out the schedule.
Fullerton will play three of its last four matches at home hosting Big West rivals UC Irvine (April 2), Cal Poly (April 9) and UC Santa Barbara (April 10) before ending the regular season on the road at defending conference champion Long Beach State.
The Big West Conference Women's Tennis Championship will be played April 28-May 1 at Indian Wells Tennis Garden in Indian Wells, Calif.
The Titans return two-time Big West All-Conference Singles First Team selection Alexis Valenzuela as well as two-time Big West All-Conference Doubles Second Team pick Camille De Leon. The juniors will be joined by redshirt junior Emilia Borkowski, senior Rebekkah Ermac, sophomore Danielle Pham, redshirt freshman Isabel Donaldson as well as a trio of freshmen: Carolen Fararji, Sarah Nuno and Karla Portalatin.
Prior to the start of fall tennis, the Titans will host the third-annual Tennis with the fundraiser on Saturday, Oct. 3 at 9 a.m.
Players of all levels are invited to join the 2015-16 women's tennis team and alumni to a morning of round robin doubles. Price is $150 to play, which includes lunch and a t-shirt, and all proceeds will go directly to the tennis program and the $150 donation is tax deductible. Register HERE.
