SAN DIEGO – The Cal State Fullerton women's tennis team posted several wins on the first day of competition at the ITA Southwest Regionals as Alexis Valenzuela, Danielle Pham, Emilia Borkowski and Camille De Leon will each play on Friday.
Valenzuela is the only remaining Titan in singles action left in the winners bracket.
After receiving a bye through round of 128, the native of West Covina, Calif., defeated Pepperdine's Christine Maddox, 3-6, 7-6 (5), 6-1 in the round of 64.
Valenzuela will play the tournament's third seed, Kyle McPhillips of UCLA, on Friday at 9:30 a.m in the round of 32.
Advancing in doubles play is the team of Valenzuela and freshman Danielle Pham as the duo – in their first match together – moved to the round of 32 with an 8-6 win over Laura Eales and Maeva Razakasoa of Long Beach State.
In addition, the team of Emilia Borkowski and Camille De Leon edged Loyola Marymount's Julia Norlin and Anna Romeka, 8-7, to advance to the round of 32.
In more singles action, De Leon advanced past the round of 128 with a 6-3, 6-2 victory over Grand Canyon's Nina Asanin, before falling to CSUN's Vivian Lin, 6-3-, 6-1 in the round of 64.
Borkowksi defeated Pepperdine's Daniele Feneridis, 6-3, 6-0, but was ousted in the round of 64 by the tournament's No. 7 seed, USC's Zoe Katz, 6-2, 6-1.
Pham also advanced out of the round of 128 with a three-set 2-6, 6-4, 7-6 (3) win over Grand Canyon's Lana Rinaldi. Pham was then defeated, 6-3, 6-3, in the round of 64 by San Diego State's Tamith Nguyen.
