IRVINE, Calif. – Freshman Alexis Valenzuela, senior Morgan McIntosh and freshman Camille De Leon received 2014 Big West Women's Tennis All-Conference honors on Tuesday, it was announced by the league office.

 

Valenzuela, a native of West Covina, Calif., is the first Titan in women's tennis history to be voted to the Big West Singles First Team as the award dates back to 1989.

 

The rookie led Cal State Fullerton with a record of 23-6 overall and 15-4 in singles dual play. Her 15 singles wins and 14-match winning streak from Feb. 5-April 11 set program highs dating back to 2001 – the last season stats are available for the program.

 

Valenzuela finished Big West competition with a record of 5-2 in singles play, and during the year started at the No. 2 spot (3-2) before moving to the top of the lineup (12-2).

 

McIntosh was named to the Big West Singles Second Team, earning all-league singles honors for the first-time in her four-year career. The Rancho Mirage, Calif., native departs Fullerton with 46 career victories, recording double-digit singles wins in each of her four years.

 

The 2014 season marks the first time Fullerton has had two singles players receive honors in the same year since Gina Le (second team) and Ruya Inapulat (honorable mention) in 2006.

 

McIntosh, Fullerton's No. 2 singles player the majority of the year, finished her final season with a 13-9 record in singles dual play, and ended the year on a four-match win streak while winning eight of her last 10 matches.

 

In addition, McIntosh and De Leon were named to the Big West Doubles Second Team. For McIntosh, it is the second straight year she received second team doubles accolades.

 

The pair of McIntosh and De Leon competed at the top of the lineup and finished the spring with a 10-11 record in dual play as well as a 3-4 record in Big West action.

 

Under first-year head coach Dianne Matias, Cal State Fullerton finished the season with a record of 8-15 overall.

 

Long Beach State freshman Maeva Razakasoa was named the Big West Player and Freshman of the Year, while LBSU head coach Jenny Hilt-Costello was named the Big West Coach of the Year.
