Fullerton News & Notes

Cal State Fullerton (5-11, 0-4 Big West) enters the week coming off a 4-3 loss to Wyoming, but the Titans have won two of the last three matches and will play both contests at Titan Tennis Courts this week.

In singles dual action, Fullerton sports a record of 45-51 (.469), although the top three spots hold a winning record of 31-17 (.646), while the bottom three positions in the lineup have struggled at 12-34 (.261).

The Titans have a pair of freshman in the singles lineup as Alexis Valenzuela holds a dual record of 13-3. The native of West Covina, Calif., is also on a team-best 13-match win streak, and is currently tied for the single streak record set by Caroline Freeman in 2004.

Fellow rookie Camille De Leon boasts a 10-6 record, playing at No. 3 in the lineup and won two of three matches last week. Senior Morgan McIntosh went an impressive 3-0 last week after picking up single match wins versus Colorado State, Amherst, and Wyoming.

In doubles play, a team of Valenzuela and Megan Sanford went a perfect 3-0 last week, while competing in the No. 2 spot in the lineup.

Fullerton has compiled five losses this - to Loyola Marymount (Feb. 9), UC Irvine (Feb. 13), UC Santa Barbara (Feb. 23), Georgetown (Mar. 8), and Wyoming (Mar. 21) – due to the loss of the doubles point which proved to be the difference as the Titans hold a 21-26 record (.447) in doubles dual play this year.

New Mexico State (5-9) enters Friday's match having won just one of its last six matches, including a 4-2 loss versus Cal State Northridge on Tuesday. Cal State Fullerton faced the Aggies last season on Feb. 22 and defeated NMSU 6-1 at the Titan Tennis Courts.

Sophomore Ashvarya Shrivastava leads New Mexico State as she has won a career-high eight-consecutive singles' matches and is 10-3 overall during spring dual-match action.

Cal State Northridge (7-6, 2-2 Big West) is coming off a win against NMSU on Tuesdsay, but the Matadors have not won a road contest this season. Last year, the Titans defeated CSUN 4-3 in Northridge.
