FULLERTON, Calif. – Cal State Fullerton (1-0) opened up their 2019 season with a walk-off 3-2 victory over Idaho State (0-1) Thursday night. Deshea Hill was the hero with the game-winning hit in the bottom of the seventh.
Hill led the Titans going 3-4 on the night with two singles, a home run, and two RBI. Alexa Neil went 1-4 with a run scored in her Titan debut while Ari Williams went 1-3 with a walk and a stolen base. Daisy Munoz also picked up her first career Titan hit to go along with a walk. Kelsie Whitmore was the only other Titan with a hit going 1-2 with a walk.
In the circle, Taylor Dockins got the nod for the opening day start going two innings allowing a run on two hits while striking out one. Sophie Frost (1-0) came in and threw the final five innings of the game, picking up the victory while allowing a run on two hits striking out four.
Idaho State got on the board first on a single into right that Janelle Rodriguez lost in the lights leading to the first run of the ballgame.
Fullerton responded in the bottom of the second as Munoz skied a flyball into left field that was dropped leading to a three-base error and the first run for the Titans' 2019 season.
The Bengals would reclaim the lead in the fifth after a leadoff double and a sac bunt put a runner on third for Emma Bordenkecher, who laced a single into left field.
Hill would come up in the bottom half of the fifth though and immediately tie it back up with a rocket to straight away center. It's the third home run of her young career.

After a shutdown inning by Frost that included two strikeouts, Fullerton came back to the dish looking for the walk-off win. After Neil's single up the middle, a wild pitch moved her up to second and forced Idaho State to intentionally walk Williams. Step in the hero Hill, who lined a base hit into right field bringing home Neil and the first victory of 2019 season.
The Titans will play a double-header tomorrow as they match up with Buffalo at 3:00 p.m. and Louisville at 5:30 p.m.
