FULLERTON, Calif. – After winning its third consecutive Big West championship, the Cal State Fullerton softball team looks to make some more history as they have released their schedule for the 2019 season. The news was announced on Monday.
"Go big or go home is the theme for our 2019 schedule," says head coach Kelly Ford. "We have an outstanding mix of opponents that will absolutely challenge us every single game and make sure that we are ready and prepared for conference play."
The Titans will take part in six tournaments this season, playing host to three of them. Just like last year, the Titan Classic will serve as the opening weekend tournament. Fullerton will kick off the tournament and their season with Idaho State on Thursday, Feb. 7 at 6:00 pm. After that they will play Buffalo (3:00 pm) and Louisville (5:30 pm) in a double-header on Friday, Feb. 8 followed by a matchup with Utah State on Saturday at 5:30 pm. Opening weekend ends with a game on Sunday against Pacific on Feb. 10 with first pitch scheduled for 5:30 pm.
Next up on the schedule is a tournament at the University of Arizona the following weekend (Feb. 14-17) where the Titans will be a part of the first weekend at the Wildcats' new stadium. The Titans will return home for a midweek matchup with San Diego State on Thursday, Feb. 20 at 6:00 p.m.
Fullerton will be back in the Mary Nutter Classic this season playing four games in two days on Feb. 23 and Feb. 24. On the 23rd, they will play the defending champion Huskies of Washington (2:30 pm) and Bethune-Cookman (5:30 pm). The Titans come back with a pair of tough matchups against Oklahoma at 9:00 am and Cal at 11:30 am.
Following the Mary Nutter Classic, the Titans return home for the prestigious Judi Garman Classic. Fullerton will play five games starting with Oregon on Thursday, Feb. 28 at 2:30 pm. Friday, they will play UCONN at 7:30 pm and Saturday, they will face off against UTSA at 8:00 pm. The host Titans will close out Judi Garman weekend with another game against the defending champs of Washington at 11:15 am and close out the tournament with New Mexico at 1:30 pm.
Fullerton hits the road on the next weekend as they head up to Northern California for the second Silicon Valley Classic hosted by Santa Clara and San Jose State. The Titans kick off the weekend with a game against San Jose State on Thursday, March 7 at 6:00 pm. Then they'll play a double-header on Friday against Nevada and Weber State beginning at 9:00 am. They close out their Nor-Cal trip on Saturday with Northern Kentucky at 9:00 am and another game against Nevada at 2:00 pm.
The Titans take a break from tournament play with a midweek matchup against Houston at Anderson Family Field on Tuesday, March 12 at 6:00 pm.
Next on the slate, is the final tournament of the season for Fullerton hosting the Easton Invitational. The Titans will have the last game on each day; playing Boston on Thursday, Harvard on Friday, DePaul on Saturday, and closing the tourney out with Charleston Southern. The tournament will take place the weekend of March 14-17.
The Titans will play four more games before opening up Big West play starting with Dartmouth on Wednesday, March 20. Then it'll be three games at Loyola Marymount on March 21st and 22nd. Fullerton's final non-conference game will be a rematch with the team that eliminated them from the postseason last year in UCLA. The rematch will take place Tuesday, March 26 in Westwood, Calif.
Saturday, March 30 will be the start of conference play as Fullerton heads up to Santa Barbara for their three-game set with the Gauchos. The rest of the Big West slate goes as follows: CSUN (April 5-6), at Long Beach (April 13-14), Hawai'i (April 19-20), at UC Davis (April 27-28), Cal Poly (May 4-5), and closing out the season at UC Riverside (May 10-11).
