FULLERTON, Calif. – Cal State Fullerton (14-17) took both games of the midweek double-header against CSU Bakersfield (2-21) thanks to some dominant pitching on Tuesday night.

Sophie Frost got the start in game number one and did what she has been doing in her last eight starts…dominate. The sophomore recorded her eighth straight complete game and third shutout of the season. In her seven innings, she only allowed five hits and two walks while striking out seven.

Offensively, Fullerton wasted no time putting up two in the first inning courtesy of a squeeze play from Ari Williams to bring in Brooke Clemetson. After stealing second and third, Williams would come in to score on a Janelle Rodriguez bloop single into left field.

From that point on, it was the Frost show as she threw one shutout inning after another cruising through the Bakersfield lineup. In fact, only one runner got past second base and that was in the sixth inning.

The Titans would plate another run in the bottom half of the sixth just for safe keeping thanks to a Bryanna Ybarra double to bring in Shianne Brannan.

Brannan and Ybarra both recorded two-hit games as the Titans cruised to an easy 3-0 win for the first game of the evening.

Trish Parks would be given the ball for game number two and she had her best outing of the season. She would also go the distance throwing six shutout innings only allowing four hits and two walks while striking out two. It is her first complete game of the season and first shutout since joining Cal State Fullerton.

The offense turned it up a to a new level for game number two, plating nine runs on eight hits in a run-rule six inning victory. Sammie Vandiver, Zoe Richard, and Bryanna Ybarra led the way all recording two knocks each in the contest. The hero of the game was freshman Sam Kennedy, who came into the game in the fifth inning, as she blasted her first career home run to walk it off.

The scoring got started in the first inning yet again as Fullerton put up two just as they did in game one. This time it was courtesy of a sac fly from Richard and an RBI single from Ybarra. However, they would keep the offense going this time plating three more runs in the second.

With the bases loaded, Ari Williams would bring in a run as the shortstop's throw home sailed to the back stop as Parks would come in to score. The next batter was Richard and she sent a shot back up the middle to plate two more runs as Clemetson and Vandiver came in to score. The three-run inning made it a 5-0 lead for the Titans and that was more than enough for Parks in the circle.

Parks was cruising in the circle as she only allowed two baserunners to reach second and none got any further than that. She got a lot of help from her defense behind her, especially Julia Valenzuela behind the dish who threw out all three would-be base stealers on the night including two to end an inning.

After plating another run in the fifth, the Titans needed two to get the run-rule to factor in as they went in to the sixth. The first two hitters of the inning were retired and then pinch hitter Mikaela Francis reached on an error to keep the inning alive. Richard would follow that up with a line drive single into right field to bring up the hero of the contest. Getting down to her final strike, Sam Kennedy got a pitch on the inner half and she launched it over the left field fence for a three-run shot. It is the first dinger of her young career and it goes down as a walkoff as the Titans would win it 9-0 in six innings.

Cal State Fullerton is back in action tomorrow (not Thursday) against Loyola Marymount at 6:00 p.m. at Anderson Family Field. It's the start of the final non-conference series the Titans will play this season.
