Galarza Named on Academic All-District Softball Team


FULLERTON, Calif.
– Sophomore Samantha Galarza was named to the CoSIDA Academic All-District 2013-14 Softball Team, it was announced today.


The native of Moreno Valley, Calif., will advance to the Capital One Academic All-America Team Ballot, where first, second and third team All-America honorees will be selected later this month. The Academic All-District teams are divided into eight geographic districts across the United States and Canada, while Galarza was chosen specifically in district eight at the NCAA Division I level.


In 2014, Galarza has started 48 games totaling 43 hits, four home runs and 20 runs scored with 20 RBIs. She has also logged a .342 on-base percentage to go along with a .303 batting average while collecting 59 total bases. Batting from the right-side, she launched a deciding grand slam on Mar. 30 that proved to be the game-winner against UC Santa Barbara in a thrilling come from behind 11-7 victory in Fullerton, Calif. 


With a 3.95 GPA, the shortstop and second baseman hit .211 in 2013 while recording four runs scored and four RBI. The infielder posted a .944 fielding percentage and recorded 59 putouts.


The communications major has been named a Dean's Scholar, a President's Scholar and has earned Dean's List honors every semester at Cal State Fullerton. Galarza was a recipient of the CSF Big West Sportsmanship Award and Big West Scholar-Athlete of the Year in 2013 and is currently a Titan SAAC Representative. Galarza aspires to play softball professionally and hopes to pursue investigative journalism and missionary work.
