FULLERTON, Calif.—Sophomore Aztec pitcher Danielle O'Toole pitched a three-hitter while the SDSU offense backed her with a four-run inning that toppled previously unbeaten Cal State Fullerton, 6-1, Thursday evening at SDSU Softball Stadium.

Following tonight's loss over the Aztecs, Fullerton falls to 6-1 on the season as San Diego State moves to 4-1. The Titans continue to compete in the SDSU Campbell/Cartier Classic and face Saint Mary's (Friday), Texas State (Friday), South Dakota (Saturday) and California (Saturday) in San Diego, Calif.

The Titans struck early in the second inning as shortstop Gabby Aragon came around to score after the SDSU defense committed two errors. Aztecs starter Danielle O'Toole (5-0) recovered exceptionally after the defensive errors, as she pitched seven strong innings, yielding only three hits, zero walks, and one unearned run while fanning three Titans.

Both teams garnered votes in this week's ESPN.com/USA Softball poll, but the Titans offense was held in check all evening as catcher Ariel Tsuchiyama accounted for all offensive production, batting 3-fo-3 again O'Toole while the rest of the line-up accounted for 0-for-23 from the plate.

San Diego State would tally four runs in the third inning, beginning with Aztec sophomore Monica Downey's one-out double to right center field and capped off by freshman Sydnee Cable's hard hit single scoring outfielder Hayley Miles.

Fullerton would attempt to answer beginning with a one-out single by Tsuchiyama in the top of the sixth inning. After hitting into a fielder's choice by junior Desiree Ybarra, pinch runners Delynn Rippy and Jena Rubio would enter the game to add speed to the bases. SDSU's O'Toole would force a routine grounder to first baseman Eliza Crawford to crush the final gasp from the Titans.  

The Aztecs would tack on two more insurance runs in the sixth on a pair of sacrifice flies by catcher Frankie Orlando and Downey that extended SDSU's lead to 6-1 which would hold up as the final score.

Notes: The 6-1 deficit CSF had faced is a season-high as the Titans were never able to execute a rally. Catcher Tsuchiyama was the only Titan to register a hit against Aztec starter O'Toole, batting a perfect 3-for-3, all singles while the rest of the team was a combined 0-for-23. Junior Ybarra pitched two innings of relief for CSF, lowering her season ERA to a Big West best 0.54, while fanning eight over 13 innings on the season. The Titans undefeated record has come to an end at the hands of the Aztecs, with the previous 6-0 mark being the best start since the 2000 season. The Titan tandem of Taukeiaho and Tsuchiyama continue to lead the Big West for most RBI on the season with eight apiece thus far.
