2013 Season Recap
With a new head coach and one of the toughest schedules in the nation, the Cal State Fullerton softball team finished third in the Big West Conference and .500 overall for the first time since 2009 during the 2013 season.
After starting the season 16-25, the Titans won 12 of it's final 15 contests, finishing the season with 28-28 overall, and 13-11 in the Big West Conference. The Titans knocked off four top-25 ranked teams, including No. 7 Missouri, No. 10 UCLA, No. 15 Hawai'i, and No. 21 Virginia Tech.
Kelly Ford
In her first season at the helm of Cal State Fullerton softball, Kelly Ford guided the Titans to a 28-28 overall record and 13-11 in the Big West Conference. After nine successul seasons at Mount San Antonio Junior College, Ford returned to help five Titans earn All-Big West Conference Honors, including Freshman Pitcher of the Year Jasmine Antunez.

Jasmine Antunez
Antunez becomes the first Titan to win Big West Freshman of the Year and first pitcher to earn a Big West pitching accolade since Jodie Cox was named Big West Pitcher of the Year in 2003. The Garden Grove, Calif., native finished 18-14 overall with a 2.56 ERA in 47 appearances for the Titans as a rookie. She tossed four shutouts and went the distance nine times, finishing first in appearances, second in starts (38), second in innings pitched (196.2), third in wins, and fourth in strikeouts (174). Antunez also held opponents to a .215 batting average, which was third best in the Big West.
Aragon, who missed 28 games due to an injury, returned to the lineup and finished the year with a .297 batting average, 13 runs scored, and recorded nine RBI's. She was also named to the Big West Second Team as a freshman in 2010. In the final 15 games of the season, she batted .441 with 15 hits, 11 runs scored, and seven RBI's to help Fullerton win 13 of their last 15 games.
Crawford started all 56 games, primarily at third base, batting .295 with a team high eight home runs, 29 RBI's, and 19 runs scored, which was the second most for the Titans. The Lakewood, Calif., native had a .519 slugging percentage and had ten multiple hit games and ten multiple RBI games. On February 26, she went 3-for-4 with three RBI's in an 11-5 upset win against No. 10 UCLA at Easton Stadium in Los Angeles.
Turang, in her first season with Fullerton after spending one season in Conference USA at Southern Miss, earned second-team honors after leading the Titans in batting average (.323), triples (5), and finished second on the team in steals with 12. The sophomore's five triples were tied for the best in the Big West with UC Riverside's Kayla White. In conference play Turang had the sixth best batting average (.386) and sacrifice bunts (6).
Tsuchiyama, a second-team member in 2011, led Fullerton in hits and finished second on the team in batting average (.323). The redshirt junior catcher missed all of 2012 due to an injury, but returned to be a key contributor for the Titans. She also added 18 runs scored, nine doubles, and 25 RBI's. She also threw out 17 base runners this year, which was the second most in the Big West.
Named to the NFCA All-West Region Second Team as a sophomore. In the circle this season Ybarra finished 9-13 overall with a 2.86 ERA in 40 appearances for the Titans. She tossed 117 2/3 innings this season, two complete games and finished 23 games for Fullerton, which was the most in the Big West this season. As the primary number three-hitter for the Titans, Ybarra hit .260 with three home runs and 23 RBI's, while also recording a team-high 12 doubles. She had a .400 slugging percentage to go along with 13 multiple hit games and five multiple RBI games. On February 26, she went 2-for-4 with a home run and career high five RBI's in an 11-5 upset win against No. 10 UCLA at Easton Stadium in Los Angeles.
Historic Performances
NO-NO!
Jasmine Antunez tossed her first career no-hitter. The no-no came in the first game of a doubleheader against UNLV (Apr. 20). The hurler walked three and fanned four on 87 pitches in the 3-0 victory. The no-hitter was the first for a CSF pitcher since March 2, 2007 when Candice Baker accomplished the feat in a 1-0 win over Stanford.
Defeating No. 7 Missouri, No. 10 UCLA, and No. 15 Hawai'i
The Titans took down four top 25 ranked opponents this season. The Titans defeated No. 15 Hawai'i 11-3 at Anderson Family Field, No. 10 UCLA 11-5 at Easton Stadium in Los Angeles, and defeated No. 7 Missouri 5-4 on Feb. 23, 2013 at Anderson Family Field. Fullerton also defeated No. 21 Virginia Tech 7-3 at the Judi Garman Classic on Mar. 16.

Big West Milestone
The Titans picked up their 500th Big West Conference win on May 10, 2013 against Cal State Northridge. Fullerton now has a Big West record of 501-247-2. Cal State Fullerton joined the Big West Conference in 1986.
Antunez and Laban Moving Up Pitching Records
Jasmine Antunez appeared in 47 games this season, which is the most from a Fullerton pitcher since 1991. The Garden Grove, Calif., native started 38 games, which sets a new record for games started in a single season by a pitcher. Senior Katey Laban recorded two saves during the 2013 season giving her career four career saves, which moves her up to sixth all-time in career saves.
Triples
After blasting a triple to the center field fence in game two versus McNeese State on Feb. 11, 2013, Ashley Carter moved up to fourth on the all-time list in career triples with nine tieing Carey Hess, who played for the Titans from 1987-90. Also, Carissa Turang hit five triples during the 2013 season, which ranks fifth for triples in a single season.
Taking Care of the Softball
The Titans committed 48 errors this season, which is the least amount of errors in a single season in program history. Fullerton also finished ranked 31st in Division One fielding percentage (.970). USC Upstate led the nation with a .981 fielding percentage.
RPI
The Titans finished the season ranked 58th in the nation in Rating Percentage Index (RPI). RPI measures a team's wins and losses and its strength of schedule. Fullerton played against four teams that finished in the top 10 and against eight teams in the final top 25.
Senior Send-Off
Cal State Fullerton saw seniors Ashley Carter, Katey Laban, Kirsten Lambertson, Tiffany Sheffler, and Courtney Snyder played their last game at Anderson Family Field on Saturday, May 11, 2013 versus Cal State Northridge.
PITCHER OF THE WEEK
Cal State Fullerton freshman Jasmine Antunez posted a 4-0 record, including her first career no-hitter, to claim the Big West Softball Pitcher of the Week award for the week of April 15-21. Antunez's no-no came in the first game of a doubleheader against UNLV. The hurler notched a 0.58 earned run average and allowed just 11 hits with 20 strikeouts on her stat line.
