FULLERTON, Calif. -
2013 NFCA Division I All-Region Teams
Cal State Fullerton sophomore pitcher/designated player Desiree Ybarra was named to the 2013 National Fastpitch Coaches Association All-West Region Second Team on Thursday morning. The Riverside, Calif., native becomes the first Titan to be named to an NFCA All-West Region team since Kiki Munoz earned the same honor in 2008.
"It's a great honor for Desiree, she was outstanding for us," said head coach Kelly Ford. "She owned her role to come into the game and gets outs, while also being a steady offensive force force in the three spot all season."
The all-region teams are chosen by NFCA member coaches from their respective regions. Ybarra and the rest of the all-region honorees are now eligible to be named to the 2013 NFCA Division 1 All-American teams.
In the circle this season Ybarra finished 9-13 overall with a 2.86 ERA in 40 appearances for the Titans. She tossed 117 2/3 innings this season, two complete games and finished 23 games for Fullerton, which was the most in the Big West this season.
As the primary number three-hitter for the Titans, Ybarra hit .260 with three home runs and 23 RBI's, while also recording a team-high 12 doubles. She had a .400 slugging percentage to go along with 13 multiple hit games and five multiple RBI games. On February 26, she went 2-for-4 with a home run and career high five RBI's in an 11-5 upset win against No. 10 UCLA at Easton Stadium in Los Angeles.
Ybarra helped guide the Titans to a 28-28 overall record and third place finish in the Big West. The 2013 NFCA Division 1 All-America teams will be announced at 2 p.m. on Wednesday, May 29, via NFCA.org
