Titans Split First Two Games With Matadors

FULLERTON, Calif. – Jasmine Antunez tossed a complete game shutout in 4-0 victory in game one and five errors committed  by the Cal State Fullerton defense allowed Cal State Northridge to take game two 2-1 at Anderson Family Field on Friday night.

The Titans move to 27-28 on the season and 12-11 in the Big West, while Cal State Northridge improves to 25-30, 11-12 in Big West play.

Game One: Cal State Fullerton 4, Cal State Northridge 0

Jasmine Antunez (17-14) delivered another impressive performance in the circle for Cal State Fullerton as the Titans defeated Cal State Northridge 4-0 in game one at Anderson Family Field on Friday afternoon. The Garden Grove, Calif., native tossed a complete game shutout scattering just three hits, while issuing two walks and striking out five.  

Cal State Fullerton took the lead in the third inning after a sacrifice fly to center field from Desiree Ybarra scored Leesa Harris. The Titans extended their lead to 3-0 in the next inning after a throwing error by CSUN catcher Mikayla Thielges allowed Gabby Aragon to score and an RBI single up the middle scored senior Tiffany Sheffler.

Melissa Sechrest added the fourth run of the game for Fullerton with a RBI double down the right field line scored third baseman Eliza Crawford from first base. CSUN's Shelly Tait (12-12) also went the distance tossing a complete game while allowing four runs, two earned, off 10 hits.

Ariel Tsuchiyama was 2-for-3 with an RBI and Ashley Carter added two hits for the Titans. The Matadors got hits from Korinne Randazzo, Jennifer Tyler, and Adrienne Martinez.

Game Two: Cal State Northridge 2, Cal State Fullerton 1

Cal State Northridge took advantage of five fielding miscues by Cal State Fullerton in game two to hold onto a 2-1 victory at Anderson Family Field on Friday night. The Matadors scored the first run off the game off a throwing error by Fullerton shortstop Gabby Aragon. The Titans had three errors in the first inning, which allowed CSUN to take an early advantage.

Mikayla Thiegles extended the Matador lead to 2-0 in the top of the sixth inning after belting a solo shot to center. In the bottom of the seventh inning, the Titans made things interesting after getting a two out double from Gabby Aragon and then an RBI single up the middle from Melissa Sechrest. With the tying run on CSUN's Mia Pagano (9-8) struck out Tiffany Sheffler to end the game and hold onto a 2-1 victory.

Pagano tossed seven innings allowing just one run off three hits, while issuing one walk and striking out five. Desiree Ybarra (10-12) records the loss for the Titans after throwing six innings allowing two runs, one earned, off five hits, while issuing three walks. Antunez tossed the final inning striking out all three batters she faced.

The Titans only managed three hits in game two and two hits came in the bottom of the seventh inning. Crystal Maas and Thiegles both recorded RBI's for Cal State Northridge.

The Titans and Matadors will face off in the season finale at 12 pm at Anderson Family Field. Cal State Fullerton will honor the five seniors playing in their final home game tomorrow prior to first pitch.
