Titans Complete Sweep With 5-2 Win Over Pacific

FULLERTON, Calif.Desiree Ybarra delivered an impressive performance out of the bullpen and a four-run second inning helped the Cal State Fullerton softball team complete the series sweep with a 5-2 win over Pacific at Anderson Family Field on Saturday afternoon.

The Titans improve to 26-27 on the season and 11-10 in Big West Play, while the Tigers fall to 28-25 overall and 12-9 in conference play.

In 4 2/3 innings of work in a relief role, Desiree Ybarra (9-12) allowed just two hits, while issuing three walks and striking out one in the win. Ybarra picked up wins in all three games this weekend for the Titans. Tori Shepard (6-6) takes the loss after surrendering five runs, one earned, off six hits, while issuing three walks.

After pulling off come from behind wins in the first two games of the series Fullerton again found themselves behind early after Pacific shortstop Megan Allen belted a home run over the left field fence in the second inning putting the Tigers up 1-0.

However, the Titans again found a way to comeback producing a four-run second inning of the series, their second four-run inning of the series. The inning started with a walk to Melissa Sechrest and a sacrifice bunt attempt from Tiffany Shefflerm, but on the sacrifice attempt a throwing error by third baseman Taylor Petty allowed pinch runner Jena Rubio to reach third. After a one-out walk to Ariel Tscuhiyama to load the bases, second baseman Carissa Turang crushed a 1-1 pitch for a bases-clearing triple giving the Titans a 4-2 lead. The Titans added one more in the inning after Ybarra hit an RBI double to right center scoring Turang.

Senior Ashley Carter added a RBI single in the third inning, which extended the Titan lead to 5-2. Freshman Jasmine Antunez drew the start tossing 2 1/3 innings allowing two runs while scattering three hits and issuing three walks.

Aragon was 2-for-3 with a run scored and Ybarra was 2-for-3 at the plate with an RBI double. Turang's triple in the second inning gives her back-to-back games with three-run triples.

Carly Mortensen closed the game out for the Tigers allowing just two hits in three innings of work. Pacific had five different players' record hits and three different players had two walks apiece.

Fullerton wraps up the regular season next weekend against the Cal State Northridge Matadors at Anderson Family Field on Friday and Saturday. The Titans and Matadors will meet in a doubleheader on Friday (May 10) at 4 & 6 p.m. and then will play one game on Saturday (May 11) at 12 p.m.
