FULLERTON, Calif. – Cal Poly'S Kim Westlund's RBI single to left field scoring Ashley Romano help propel the Mustangs over Cal State Fullerton 1-0 during game one of a Friday doubleheader and Mariah Cochiolo's two-run single in the fifth inning helped give Cal Poly a 3-2 victory in game two.

Eliza Crawford was 3-for-6 with two RBI's and a run scored and Ashley Carter added two hits over the two contests as Cal State Fullerton drops to 15-19 overall and 2-3 in the Big West. Cal Poly improves to 14-20-1 on the year and 3-2 in conference play.

The Titans and Mustangs will wrap up the conference series tomorrow at noon at Anderson Family Field.

Game One: Cal Poly 1, Cal State Fullerton 0

Cal Poly sophomore Chloe Wurst out-dueled Cal State Fullerton freshman Jasmine Antunez giving the Mustangs a 1-0 victory over the Titans at Anderson Family Field on Tuesday afternoon.

Wurst delivered an impressive performance, tossing a complete game shutout allowing just four hits and issuing one walk, while striking out three. Antunez also threw a complete game, but one run given up in the fifth inning was good enough to record the loss. The Garden Grove native, allowed four hits and five walks, while striking out three. Antunez falls to 9-11 on the season, while Wurst improves to 7-8-1 for the Mustangs.

The only run of the game came in the fifth inning off an RBI single to left field from shortstop Kim Westlund, which scored Ashley Romano from second base.

Wurst never allowed the Titans to get into a true rhythm and the Titans only scoring chance came in the seventh inning. After a single from Eliza Crawford pinch runner Jena Rubio stole second and third giving the Titans the tying run at third base with two outs. However, Wurst was able to get right fielder Tiffany Sheffler to pop up back to her to end the game.

Crawford was 2-for-3 and Ashley Carter added a hit in the loss. Cal Poly got hits from four different batters and was able to get on base from five Antunez walks.

Game Two: Cal Poly 3, Cal State Fullerton 2

After falling behind 2-0 in the first inning the Cal Poly Mustangs would find a way to crawl their way back in game two to defeat Cal State Fullerton 3-2 at Anderson Family Field.

The Titans got things started off quickly with a single from Titan center fielder Ashley Carter and then two batters later redshirt sophomore Eliza Crawford belted a two-run home run to center field giving Fullerton a 2-0 lead. However, the Titans would be unable to produce any runs after the first inning.

The Mustangs answered back in the second inninng with an RBI single to left field from Whitney Gerhart and three innings later Cal Poly would take the lead for good.

After stranding the bases loaded during the third, Cal Poly saw a leadoff single in the fourth from freshman first baseman Breana West erased after Gerhart lined into a double play. In the fifth inning, Cal State Fullerton pitcher Desiree Ybarra got in trouble after giving up a leadoff hit to Ashley Romano and a walk to shortstop Kim Westlund. The Mustangs would capitalize on a wild pitch, which allowed both runners to move up a base, as catcher Mariah Cochiolo doubled to left bringing in Romano and Westlund and giving Cal Poly a 3-2 lead.

The Titans would try to tie the game up in the bottom of the seventh inning, but again the Titans would come up just short after getting a pinch hit single from Courtney Snyder and a walk from Ariel Tsuchiyama.

Cal Poly starter Nicole Innamorato threw 1 2/3 innings giving up two runs off three hits before being pulled for Jordan Yates. The 5-8 sophomore from Kerman, Calif. would throw the final 5 1/3 innings giving up no runs to improve to 4-9 on the year.

Ybarra (5-7) tossed five innings giving up three runs off eight hits and issued three walks in the loss before being relieved by game one starter Jasmine Antunez.

Fullerton second baseman Carissa Turang was 2-for-3 and Tsuchiyama added a hit in the loss. The Titans will try and avoid the sweep against the Mustangs tomorrow at noon at Anderson Family Field. The Titans were swept by Cal Poly on the road in San Luis Obispo in 2010, but have never been swept in a three-game series format versus the Mustangs.

Fullerton will also welcome kids ages 12 and under to participate in an Easter Egg hunt after the game at Anderson Family Field tomorrow.
