Titans Drops 9-0 Decision to No. 1 Oklahoma

FULLERTON, Calif. - Keilani Ricketts delivered another impressive outing and three home runs by the Oklahoma offense helped propel the top ranked Sooners over Cal State Fullerton 9-0 on Sunday afternoon at Anderson Family Field.

The Titans move to 13-16 on the season, while Oklahoma improves to 27-1 capping off a perfect weekend for the Sooners at the Judi Garman Classic. Fullerton was 2-3 over the weekend and now turns it's attention to Big West conference play.

Ricketts (14-0) took a no-hitter into fourth inning as she retired the first 10 batters of the game, with the first five Titan batters coming via strikeout. Ricketts finished with 10 strikeouts in five innings giving up only two hits. Oklahoma's offense got off to a quick start scoring in the first inning. With two outs and second baseman Georgia Casey on second, catcher Jessica Shults hit a home run of the season to give the Sooners a 2-0 lead.

Freshman Jasmine Antunez (8-10) got the start tossing two innings giving up six runs off five hits, while striking out three. Desiree Ybarra relieved Antunez throwing 2 2/3 innings giving up three runs off five hits.

A four-run second inning, spurred by back-to-back home runs, broke the game open for OU.

With two outs and center fielder Destinee Martinez on first, right fielder Brianna Turang reached on an infield single to shortstop. That brought up first baseman Lauren Chamberlain who worked the count to 3-1 before belting a home run to center field giving the Sooners a 4-0 lead.

Casey followed Chamberlain with a solo home run, her fourth of the season, to make it 5-0 in OU's favor. Oklahoma initiated the run-rule in the fifth inning by scoring three more runs.

With one out, Ricketts singled to the hole at shortstop and junior Brittany Williams followed with a single of her own to left field. Martinez then singled to center field and Ricketts was able to beat the throw to the plate.

Later in the inning, with Martinez on third and pinch hitter Paris Townsend on first, Turang doubled to left center to drive home Martinez and send Townsend to third base. A walk to Chamberlain filled the bases before Casey walked on five pitches to plate the game's final run.

The Titans first hit of the game came from senior Ashley Carter in the fourth inning and Lauren Mario hit a single to left field in the fifth inning.

The Titans start conference play next weekend on the road against UC Santa Barbara. Fullerton will play a doubleheader on Saturday March 23 starting at 12 p.m.
