Badgers Out-duel Titans 1-0

FULLERTON, Calif.- After recording 13 hits in an upset win against UCLA on Tuesday, the Cal State Fullerton (6-9) softball team's offense was non-existance, as they only managed five hits in a 1-0 loss to the University of Wisconsin (11-1).

Wisconsin's Cassandra Darrah (7-0) tossed a complete game shutout for the Badgers in her seventh start this season. Darrah didn't allow a hit until Leesa Harris hit a bunt single down the third base line in the fifth inning and retired seven Titans in a row at one point.

The Badgers scored the only run of the game in the top of the fifth inning off an RBI single to left field by shortstop Stephanie Peace, scoring sophomore Maria Van Abel from second. First baseman Shannel  Blackshear went 2-for-3 for the Badgers for her second multiple hit game of the season.

The Titans only rally came in the 6th inning when they loaded the bases for second basemen Lauren Mario. Mario battled to a 3-2 count, but struck out looking to end the inning. Leesa Harris went 2-for-3 for her second multiple-hit game of the season. Ariel Tsuchiyama's single in the top of the sixth inning extending her reaching base safely streak to 14 games.

Freshman Jasmine Antunez (4-5) pitched five innings giving up one run on four hits, while striking out two batters. Antunez pitched well, but allowed a two-out walk to Van Abel to the Badger fifth inning. Desiree Ybarra tossed the final two innings only giving up one hit to the Badgers.

Cal State Fullerton returns to action tomorrow at the Easton Invitational at Anderson Family Field taking on Indiana University at 3:45 p.m. and Wisconsin again at 6 p.m. The Titans will play host to nine teams from around the country over the weekend at the Easton tournament in Fullerton, Calif. Northwestern, Wisconsin, Indiana, Cal Poly SLO, Oregon State, Iowa, Stanford, California, and CSU Bakersfield will travel to Southern California to compete in the tournament.
