Japan Toyota Defeats Titans in Exhibition Contest

FULLERTON, Calif. – The Cal State Fullerton softball team took the field Wednesday against Japan Toyota, a professional softball team from Japan, in an exhibition contest losing 8-1.

The Titans and Japan Toyota played a seven-inning game at Anderson Family Field. Team Toyota comes over to the United States annually to play collegiate and professional teams to prepare for the Japan Softball League. Team Toyota features USA Softball Olympians Monica Abbott and Natasha Watley, who have won back-to-back Japan Softball League Championships (2011 & 2012).

Cal State Fullerton's Desiree Ybarra went 1-for-3, Eliza Crawford went 1-for-2, and Ariel Tsuchiyama was walked twice and scored a run. Freshman Jasmine Antunez pitched three innings striking out four batters and only allowing a walk. Ybarra also helped the Titans in the circle tossing two innings allowing two hits and a run.

Cal State Fullerton heads on the road to Palm Springs, Calif. on Thursday Feb. 21, 2013 to take on Loyola Marymount at 6 p.m. and the University of Tennessee at 8:30 p.m. The Titans return home for a doubleheader Saturday Feb. 23 versus the No. 7 ranked Missouri Tigers starting at 2 p.m.
