FULLERTON, Calif. -- Long-time Southern California travel ball coach Jorge Araujo has been hired to serve as an assistant coach on first-year head coach Kelly Ford's staff it was announced on Tuesday.
"Coach Araujo is a great addition to our staff," first-year head coach Kelly Ford. "He is an outstanding skill technician and a true teacher of the game. I am excited to coach with him and learn from his experiences. He is a true professional with incredible passion for coaching. Coach Araujo fits right in with the rest of our staff."
A teacher in the Los Angeles Unifed School District since 2007, he is also the head varsity coach at Maywood Academy High School in Maywood, Calif., leading the Nighthawks to the City Section finals in 2012.
Collegiately, Araujo played two seasons of baseball at nearby Cal Poly Pomona as an infielder in 1988-89 after transferring from Rio Hondo Junior College. He graduated from Cal Poly Pomona with a bachelor's degree in 1992.
