FULLERTON, Calif. – Cal State Fullerton women's soccer was picked third (receiving three first-place votes) in the 2018 Big West Women's Soccer Preseason Coaches Poll. Senior defender Nano Oronoz and junior forward Atlanta Primus garnered Preseason All-Conference accolades as well, making up an 11-player team also voted on by the coaches, it was announced on Thursday.
Fullerton tallied 65 points in third place in the poll while also collection three first-place votes. UC Irvine led the way with 70 points (three first-place votes) and Long Beach State was second with 68 points (two first-place votes).
Cal State Fullerton comes off of its fourth Big West Tournament title in five years and its eighth NCAA Tournament appearance all-time. Oronoz and Primus highlight Fullerton's returning cast that went 12-6-4 overall and 4-3-1 in league. The Titans made Big West history as the first team to qualify for the Big West Tournament in six consecutive seasons. Expect a fast start and good defense from the Titans as they went 5-0-0 to open their campaign a year ago and recorded the second-most shutouts in the league with nine.
Cal State Fullerton women's soccer is set to compete in two exhibition matches this weekend when the squad plays at San Diego State on Friday at 7 p.m. PT and Sunday at home against CSUN at 5 p.m. These matches are the team's tune-up matches before the season-opening match at home against BYU on Aug. 17 at 7 p.m.
