FULLERTON, Calif. – After a successful senior campaign at Cal State Fullerton, Morgan Bertsch has joined the Seattle Reign FC organization, as announced on Tuesday.
Bertsch had a phenomenal senior campaign in her first year as a starting goalkeeper. Her senior year was filled with accolades honoring her career that landed her in the program record book. Bertsch secured one of the lowest goals against average percentage (0.75) in school history. It's the fourth lowest in program history. She was also honored with Big West Co-Goalkeeper of the Year, Big West Tournament MVP, and earned a spot on the First Team All-Conference squad. Bertsch was also honored twice as the Big West Athlete of the Week in 2017.
"I could not be more proud of what the team accomplished this year, they were so amazing from start to finish," said Bertsch reflecting on her senior season. "The culture of CSUF Women's Soccer that has been created is like no other."
Bertsch joins the Reign as an amateur and trains with the team in hopes of earning a spot as a goalkeeper.
Vlatko Andonovski, head coach of Seattle Reign FC, contacted Bertsch the day after the NWSL draft explaining that he had seen her film and he believed she has a bright future in the game. Bertsch looks forward to the opportunity to learn from two talented and experienced goalkeepers in Lydia Williams and Michelle Betos.
Bertsch credits her family and her boyfriend for their support in pushing her towards her dream of playing in the NWSL.
"To be able to do what I love, be supported, and on top of that be successful at it, is just such an amazing feeling," Bertsch said.
Seattle Reign FC will play in a preseason friendly on March 8 against the University of Washington in Seattle, WA.
