IRVINE, Calif. – Cal State Fullerton's leading scorers, Christina Burkenroad and Rebecca Wilson, combined on a pair of goals as the Titans won their third straight, a 2-1 victory at Anteater Stadium on Friday night.
Now 11-2-1 on the year, the Cal State Fullerton women's soccer team has its most wins since 2007 (12-8-2), head coach Demian Brown's first year at the helm of the program. The Titans also improve to 3-1-0 in Big West Conference action.
With the loss, UCI drops to 5-8-1 overall and 1-2-0 in league play.
After a goalless first half of soccer, it was Burkenroad's seventh score of the season in the 58th minute that gave the Titans a 1-0 advantage with her strike inside the far post that was served on a through ball from Wilson.
Fullerton doubled its lead to 2-0 as Wilson scored her team-leading 15th goal of the year in the 63rd minute. Burkenroad's pass was misplayed by an Anteater defender allowing Wilson to take advantage for the score.
Cal State Fullerton goalkeeper Jennifer Stuart, now an undefeated 9-0-0 in goal, made two saves before surrendering a goal to UCI's Alex Karlowitsch in the match's final minute.
Shots were even at nine apiece, and UCI goalkeeper Corey Tobin made three saves.
Fullerton has now scored 34 goals this season, the most for the program since netting 38 in 2010. In addition, Wilson's 15 goals are the most for a Titan in a single season since Dolores Browning scored 17 in 1996. Burkenroad's team-leading eight assists are second only to Barbie Gil's 13 helpers in 1996.
The Titans remain on the road and will travel to UC Riverside on Sunday for a 6 p.m. start from RSide Soccer Stadium.
