OVERLAND PARK, Kan. – Cal State Fullerton senior forward Rebecca Wilson was one of 30 women's soccer student-athletes selected as a candidate for the 2015 Senior CLASS Award.

To be eligible for the award, a student-athlete must be classified as an NCAA Division I senior and have notable achievements in four areas of excellence: community, classroom, character and competition.

An acronym for Celebrating Loyalty and Achievement for Staying in School®, the Senior CLASS Award focuses on the total student-athlete and encourages students to use their platform in athletics to make a positive impact as leaders in their communities.

Wilson is off to a red-hot start in 2015 with a team-leading five goals and two assists, and the reigning Big West Offensive Player of the Year is a big reason the Titans are currently unbeaten at 4-0, the best start for the program since 2008.

In the Titan record book, the Placentia, Calif., native is now tied with Amber Dickey for fifth all-time with 51 career points, and her 20 career goals tie current Fullerton assistant coach Stacey Fox for sixth all-time. Wilson's seven career game-winning goals rank third all-time at CSF.

During her time at Cal State Fullerton, the Titans have won two Big West Conference regular season championships (2012, 2014) and two league tournament titles making two NCAA Tournament appearances (2013, 2014). Wilson recovered from a season-ending injury in 2013, and as a redshirt junior in 2014, she was named to the NSCAA All-West Region Second Team, Big West Offensive Player of the Year and to the Big West First Team, while earning two Big West Player of the Week nods. In addition, in 2014, she led the Titans with 10 goals and added three assists – scoring the most goals for a Titan since 2004. As a sophomore in 2012, she was named Big West Honorable Mention. She has been named Big West Player of the Week on three occasions in her career.

Wilson is a fifth-year senior who has continually proven to be a dedicated leader and positive role model. Since beginning her career as at Titan, Wilson has been one of Fullerton's main attacking threats. Her athleticism, skill and speed have been the main catalyst for CSF's success over recent years. As captain of the women's soccer program, she provides the leadership for her teammates by example.

Wilson is a criminal justice major and maintains a solid 3.46 grade-point average. Wilson is a two-time Big West All-Academic selection and has made the Dean's List on two occasions.

Wilson has begun mentoring young soccer players in the community. She has volunteered with Soccer for Hope, a non-profit cancer awareness foundation. In addition, she has volunteered with Fullerton Rangers Soccer Club practices and academy mentor program. She has also assisted with local elementary school physical education classes.

On the women's side, she is one two Big West candidates, the other Elise Krieghoff from Cal Poly.

This is the second recognition that Wilson has received this week after being named the Big West Conference Player of the Week on Monday.

Cal State Fullerton hosts FGCU (3-0-1) at Titan Stadium at 5 p.m., on Friday in a battle of the unbeaten. The match is part of a doubleheader with the Cal State Fullerton men's soccer team, which plays its home opener vs. George Washington at 7:30 p.m.

Of the 60 candidates (30 female, 30 male) , 25 have grade-point averages of 3.5 or higher, four are returning All-Americans and eight are on the preseason watch list for the Missouri Athletic Club's Hermann Trophy, which recognizes the top player in collegiate soccer. Outside of academics and athletics, all candidates also have been consistently involved in community service on their campus or in their communities.

Each of the two candidate classes will be narrowed to 10 finalists midway through the regular season, and those 10 names will be placed on the official ballot. Ballots will be distributed through a nationwide voting system to media, coaches and fans, who will select one male candidate and one female candidate who best exemplifies excellence in the four Cs of community, classroom, character and competition.

The Senior CLASS Award winners will be announced during the 2015 NCAA Men's and Women's College Cup® championships in December.
