FULLERTON, Calif. – The Cal State Fullerton women's soccer team recorded a 3-1 victory over Richmond in an exhibition match at Titan Stadium on Wednesday night.
Junior Ivy Diego opened the scoring in the 21st minute as Dominique DeCoy launched a long throw-in across the box, and the Richmond defense was unable to control the ball, leaving the deflection to Diego, who promptly gave the Titans a 1-0 lead.
Fullerton doubled its lead in the 40th minute as Morgan Batcheller drove a shot off of Tatianna Rizzotti's corner kick that was saved by the Richmond goalkeeper. The deflection fell to the feet of freshman Brooke Ligtenberg who took aim at the near post and pushed the Titans to a 2-0 lead.
The Spiders cut Fullerton's lead in half in the 63rd minute, but Christina Burkenroad tallied Fullerton's third goal, splitting a pair of defenders at the top of the box and hammering her shot to the far post in the 79th minute.
The Titans will play a final exhibition at 1 pm, Saturday at Pepperdine. The Titans begin the regular season hosting the Fullerton Tournament Presented by Embassy Suites-Brea N. Orange County on Friday, Aug. 21 and Sunday, Aug. 23.
