FullertonTitans.com: Why did you decide to attend Cal State Fullerton and play for the Titans?
Devin: In the first moments that I stepped onto campus, I smelled the fresh flowers and plants. I knew at that moment, that Cal State Fullerton was the school for me. Beyond first impressions, I could easily see that Fullerton offers an elite soccer team and a high quality education. It is also close enough to my home to get my family's support, but far enough away to allow me to experience independent college life.
FullertonTitans.com: You plan to pursue a career in nursing, what interests you about the field?
Devin: I am interested in the medical field because I find the human body fascinating in every facet. In addition to my intrigue, I have always had a passion to help others when they are sick or hurt. I truly want to make a difference in the lives of others. I feel that entering the medical field is the best path to meet my goals.
FullertonTitans.com: If you weren't playing soccer, what sport would you be playing?
Devin: I thrive on competition and sports, all sports. If I had to narrow it down, I would definitely choose track and field. Running is one of my passions, but jumping became a new passion in the years that I competed in it.
FullertonTitans.com: Cal State Fullerton Head coach Demian Brown stated that you have the speed and endurance to play anywhere on the outside of the field. So what are your favorite aspects of both defense and offense?
Devin: Great soccer teams are built from the back. I enjoy the strategy, teamwork, and decision making skills required to be a successful defender. When I play in the back, I enjoy chasing opponents down and denying them the opportunity on goal. As an offensive player, I love possessing the ball and creating goal scoring opportunities for myself and for my team. Despite my passion for defense, I look forward to offensive runs and plays. The moments when I get a good cross are extremely satisfying. The versatility and athleticism required for offensive positions is invigorating.
FullertonTitans.com: If you could have a super hero power, what would it be and why?
Devin: If I had a super hero power, I would like the ability to heal. With this power, I wouldn't have to see anyone in pain or suffering from injuries. It could be the first step in creating happiness for people around the world.
FullertonTitans.com: Academically, you ranked second in your graduating class. How have you learned to balance academics and athletics?
Devin: There has been one primary motivation that pushes me to excel in school and sports: I am very competitive. Whenever there is a challenge that I have to face, I tackle it head on and work hard to be successful. Despite my competitive nature, I would not have been able to succeed athletically and academically if it was not for the fact that I truly enjoy both aspects of my life.
FullertonTitans.com: If you could attend any sporting event in the world, what would it be and why?
Devin: I truly wish I could go back in time to watch Ronaldinho play in any of his Barcelona games. He represents everything I love about soccer in the way he plays. He plays with a style that shows his passion for the sport. I would love to watch him play in person and to see the finesse he uses with every movement he makes on the field.
