Titans Net Three in Second Half, Shut Out Fresno State

FRESNO, Calif. – The Cal State Fullerton women's soccer team netted three second-half goals en route a 3-0 shutout of Fresno State as the Titans' recorded their first victory of the season on Friday night at Bulldog Stadium.

"I couldn't be happier for the program," head coach Demian Brown said. "We played a very inspired second half, and got the reward we have been searching for. We look forward to our next opportunity to grow on Sunday at Loyola Marymount."

Fullerton (1-4-2) held a slight 5-3 shooting advantage in the first half, but it was Morgan Batcheller who finally got the Titans on the board in the 68th minute with the assist provided by Brianna Chapman.

Less than two minutes later, Jazzmin Mancilla delivered the assist to Ali White as the Titans doubled their lead to 2-0 in the 69th minute.

Chelsey Patterson provided the third and final goal for Fullerton, slotting home a penalty kick in the 84th minute.

Domenique Banta made three saves and allowed three goals for Fresno State (1-6-0), while Jennifer Stuart recorded her second shutout of the year, forced to make just one save in 90 minutes.

The Titans held a 13-6 advantage in shots and a 6-2 edge in corner kicks.

Fullerton returns to action at 4 p.m., Sunday at Loyola Marymount.

Notes: Cal State Fullerton has scored seven goals this season, each netted by a different player...the Titans won their first game of the season, and recorded their first win since a 1-0 shutout of UC Davis in double overtime on Oct. 27, 2013 – a stretch of 11 winless games (0-6-5)…the Titans won their first game on the road after finishing winless in their last eight  (0-5-3)  games on the road, dating back to a 2-1 double overtime win at USC on Sept. 22, 2013…Cal State Fullerton holds a 6-3-0 record against Fresno State and won in Fresno for the first time since Sept. 30, 2007…Jennifer Stuart recorded her second shutout of the year…the Titans scored multiple goals for the first time since a 2-1 overtime victory over Hawai'i on Oct. 4, 2013, a span of 16 games…Cal State Fullerton scored at least three goals for the first time since a 4-1 victory at Pacific on Oct. 28, 2012.
