FULLERTON, Calif. – The 2013 defending Big West Tournament champions return to action this week with two exhibition matches on tap.

Fullerton will travel to San Diego State on Friday for a 7 p.m. match at the SDSU Sports Deck.

The Aztecs completed the 2013 season with a record of 13-7-2, finishing 9-1-0 in the Mountain West Conference and winning the MWC tournament title with a 1-0 victory over Boise State. SDSU suffered a 3-0 loss to eventual NCAA champion UCLA in the first round of the NCAA Tournament.

The Titans will return to Titan Stadium for a 1 p.m., kick-off on Sunday as Grand Canyon visits Fullerton. The second-year Division I program was picked to finish fifth in the Western Athletic Conference Preseason poll. A season ago, the Antelopes completed the year with a record of 5-12-1.

Entering the 2014 season, Cal State Fullerton has a strong combination of newcomers and returners on its roster. The Titans return 13 letterwinners from last year's championship squad while welcoming 11 newcomers and four returning redshirts. Of Fullerton's 13 returners, five were starters last season including NSCAA All-Region selection Morgan Batcheller, Big West Second Team pick and team captain Chelsey Patterson and Big West All-Freshman team selection Jazzmin Mancilla.

Junior forward Christina Burkenroad returns as the team's leading scorer with two goals and one assist from last year, while senior Colleen Ortega returns to the backline after starting 22 matches a year ago. In addition, Fullerton welcomes back junior Rebecca Wilson after the speedy forward missed the majority of 2013 with an injury.

Cal State Fullerton totaled 51 points last season (18 goals/15 assists) and will need to replace 57 percent of that production as top scorers Erica Mazeau (4 goals, 6 assists), Nikki McCants (3 goals) and Janali West (2 goals, 2 assists) have graduated.

The Titans clinched the Big West Conference's 2013 automatic NCAA Tournament berth after winning their fourth league tournament championship on Nov. 10, 2013, courtesy of a 2-1 advantage in a penalty kick shootout against UC Riverside after the teams battled to a 1-1 draw following 110 minutes of regulation (90) and overtime (20).

The Titans, the No. 4 and lowest seed at the Big West Tournament, ousted No. 1 seeded Cal Poly on Nov. 7 after the match ended in a 1-1 tie after 110 minutes and the Titans advanced 4-3 on penalty kicks.

Fullerton was hosting the tournament at Titan Stadium after winning the 2012 Big West regular season championship.

Fullerton opens the 2014 season officially with four straight home matches, beginning with 22nd-ranked BYU on Friday, Aug. 22 at 7 p.m. The Titans will also host Michigan State (4 p.m., Aug. 24), No. 25 Denver (7 p.m., Aug. 29) and Georgia (1 p.m., Aug. 31).
