Edberg Sits In Second after Day One at Cowgirl Desert Intercollegiate

PALM DESERT, Calif. - Cal State Fullerton junior Martina Edberg finished one shot back of the lead after the first 36 holes at the Cowgirl Desert Intercollegiate hosted by Wyoming Saturday at the Classic Club in Palm Desert, Calif.

Edberg recorded a 4-under 68 in the second round after a 4-over 76 in the opening round to finish the day with an even-par 144, one shot back of leader Hannah Facchini of UC Riverside. Facchini recorded a 72 in round one followed by a 71 in the second and final round of the day.

Edberg's 68 was her third round in the 60s this season. She posted a 68 at the Dick McGuire Invitational in the Titans opening weekend and set a new Titans, tournament and course record with a 65 at the Cougar Cup on Monday. All of Edberg's rounds in the 60s have come in round two of tournaments this year.

As for the Titans, the team recorded a 43-over 619 on Saturday after posting a 305 in the opening round followed by a 314 in the second round. Fullerton sits in ninth place, 22 strokes back of day one leader San Jose State. UC Riverside is in second place, one stroke back after a 598 and Sacramento State in third place with a 611.

Pauline Welker and Brittany Farrell each finished the first day with an 11-over 155, tied for 23rd place. Welker posted a 76 followed by a 79 in the first two rounds while Farrell tied her career best with an even-par 72 in round one before falling back with an 11-over 83 in the second round.

Dakota Brown and Nadine Rivera rounded out the Titans scoring as each finished with a 22-over 166.

The Titans will return to the links Sunday morning for the final round of the Cowgirl Desert Intercollegiate with a shotgun start scheduled at 7:30 a.m.
