Edberg Finishes Second, Titans Sixth at Cougar Cup

PULLMAN, Wash. – Junior Martina Edberg finished second and Cal State Fullerton finished sixth overall at the Cougar Cup Tuesday hosted by Washington State at the Palouse Ridge Golf Course in Pullman, Wash.

One day after posting a course and tournament record 7-under 65 in the second round, Edberg finished the third round with a 2-over 74 to complete the tournament with a 3-under 213. Edberg finished tied for second place with Joanna Kim of Fresno State. Both finished two strokes back of Cherokee Kim from Washington State, who posted a 1-over 73 on Tuesday and finished at 5-under for the tournament. Kim was at the top of the leaderboard at the end of all three rounds.

Edberg's second-place finish was her sixth career top-five finish and her 213 overall score tied for the second best 54-hole performance in Cal State Fullerton history, accomplished twice before by Edberg in 2014 and 2015. Edberg recorded three more birdies on Tuesday, bringing her overall total to 15 for the tournament, the most by any player in the field.

As for the Titans, the team posted an 18-over 306 in the third round to finish the tournament in sixth place with a 36-over 900, three strokes behind Sacramento State and Montana State in fourth place. Washington State ran away with the overall title, finishing with a 2-over 866 after posting a 3-under 285 on Tuesday. The Cougars finished 14 strokes ahead of runner-up Idaho and 16 ahead of third-place Fresno State.

Dakota Brown wrapped up her first tournament of the season for the Titans with a 5-over 77 to finish with an 11-over 227. Brown finished tied for 27th.

Pauline Welker posted a 7-under 79 on Tuesday to finish her first tournament as a Titan with a 15-over 231, tied for 38th place.

Felicia Medalla and Brittany Farrell wrapped up the Titans team scoring as each posted a 16-over 232 at the Cougar Cup.

Ebba Nilsson, competing as an individual, finished her second tournament of the season with a 21-over 237 after posting a career-best round of 77 on Tuesday.

The Titans will return to the links quickly as they head to the Wyoming Cowgirl Desert Classic at the Classic Club Golf Course in Palm Desert, Calif.
