PULLMAN, Wash. - One week after setting a new Cal State Fullerton single-round scoring record, junior Martina Edberg one-upped her performance with a record-setting second round and sits in second place overall after day one at the Cougar Cup hosted by Washington State at the Palouse Golf Course in Pullman, Wash.

Edberg recorded a 7-under 65 in the second round on Monday after posting a 2-over 74 in the opening round and sits at 5-under, one stroke behind day-one leader Cherokee Kim of Washington State who recorded consecutive rounds of 69 to finish at 6-under after 36 holes. Her first-round 65 is both a new Cougar Cup record and Palouse Ridge Golf Course record. The previous mark was held by Mariko Tumangan of Stanford, who shot a 67 on April 25, 2012.

After posting three bogeys and a triple bogey in the first round, Edberg managed to record three birdies to finish the round at 2-over. Once she came out for the second round, Edberg tore through the course with nine birdies and only two bogeys on the par-4 No. 7 and the par-3 No. 13.

Edberg's 12 birdies on the day lead the field after the first day, as does her scoring average on par-3's and par-4's.

As for the Titans, the team rode Edberg's stellar second round to an even second round of 288, the second best single-round team score in Titans history. Overall, the Titans sit in fifth place in the 12 team field after posting an 18-over 594 on day one. Washington State leads the field with a 5-over 581 with Fresno State sitting in second overall with a 10-over 586. Idaho is in third at 11-over while Sacramento State rounds out the top five at 14-over.

Freshman Pauline Welker made her Titans debut on Monday and finished the day in the top-30. Her matching rounds of 4-over 76 placed her in a tie for 29th after she scored five birdies on day one.

Farrell struggled in the first round, posting an 8-over 80 after completing the initial 18 holes without the benefit of a birdie. Farrell bounced back in the second round as she recorded four birdies en route to a 2-over 74 to place her in a tie for 38th place.
