NCAA Release

INDIANAPOLIS, Ind. – Cal State Fullerton sophomore Martina Edberg was selected to the 2015 NCAA Division I Women's Golf Regionals, it was announced Monday.

Edberg was one of 384 participants selected by the NCAA to participate in four regional tournaments that will be conducted May 7-9 to determine the championships field. Regional tournaments are considered preliminary rounds of NCAA championships competition and all national championships policies apply.

Edberg is the first Titans golfer to ever be selected to the regionals since the women's golf program was reinstated for the 2009-10 season. She will be competing as an individual at the South Bend Regional Site hosted by the University of Notre Dame and be played at the Warren Golf Course in Notre Dame, Ind.

Along with Edberg, Big West Conference team champions UC Davis will also be at the South Bend regional after earning the automatic qualifier for winning the conference tournament.

On the individual side, Edberg is one of three golfers from the Big West Conference selected to the NCAA Regionals. Savannah Vilaubi (UC Riverside) and Kassidy Teare (Long Beach State) will both compete at the St. George Regional Site hosted by Brigham Young University in St. George, Utah.

In 2015, Edberg led the Titans with a 74.19 scoring average and played in all nine tournaments. She secured her third career victory after finishing with a 3-over 219 at the Juli Inkster Spartan Invitational on Feb. 23-24.

Overall, Edberg finished the 2014-15 season with three top-5, five top-10 and seven top-20 finishes. She was selected to the All-Big West Conference First Team for the second consecutive year.

In 2014, Edberg won two tournaments and became the first Titans golfer to win the Big West Conference Individual championship. She was also named the Big West Conference Freshman Player of the Year after finishing her first season with a 74.81 scoring average, which was the lowest single-season average in Cal State Fullerton history.

Of the 384 players selected Monday, 132 will advance to the championships finals. Six teams and three individuals will advance from each regional.

The national championships will be May 22-27 at The Concession Golf Club in Bradenton, Florida, hosted by the University of South Florida. The Golf Channel will televise the final three days of the championship live.
