Edberg Paces Titans With Third Place Finish at Minnesota Invitational

MINNEAPOLIS, Minn. – Sophomore Martina Edberg recorded the third top-5 finish of her career as Cal State Fullerton finished in 13th place after the final round of The Minnesota Invitational Tuesday afternoon at the Minikahda Club in Minneapolis, Minn.

Edberg shot a 2-over 74 in the final round on Wednesday, finishing the tournament with a 4-over 220, placing her in a three-way tie for third place. Edberg recorded three more birdies on Tuesday and tallied nine overall for the tournament, which was tied for the second most for the tournament. She finished 13 shots behind the winner, Frida Gustafsson Spang of East Carolina after she shot a 9-under 207, eight shots better than the runner up. 

As for the Titans, the team shot a collective 26-over 314 on Tuesday and finished the tournament with a 67-over 931. They were 11 strokes away from a top-10 spot where Illinois finished in 10th place with a 56-over 920. East Carolina won the event after posting a collective 15-over 879, 21 strokes better than second-place Colorado.

Freshman Brittany Farrell capped off her Titans debut by shooting a 10-over 82 in round three. Overall, the Dove Canyon, Calif. native finished the 54-hole event with a 19-over 235, finishing in a tie for 47th place. Farrell also finished the tournament with five birdies.

Senior Tisha Alyn Abrea was two shots back of her freshman teammate, placing in a tie for 50th place after Abrea posted a 5-over 77 in round three, matching her second round performance. She posted two birdies on Tuesday, both on the back nine and finished the tournament with six overall. Abrea finished the 54-hole event with a 21-over 237.   

Fellow senior Makayla Mier recorded a pair of birdies on Tuesday en route to a 9-over 81, putting her in a tie for 62nd while Nadine Rivera rounded out the Titans scoring with an 86 in the third round, finishing the tournament with a score of 252.

The Titans will take one week off before hitting the road again for the Rose City Challenge at Langdon Farms Golf Club in Portland, Ore. on Sept. 28.
