SAN JOSE, Calif. – Freshman Martina Edberg finished with a 3-under 213 after three rounds to earn co-medalist honors and lead Cal State Fullerton to a seventh place finish Tuesday at the Juli Inkster Spartan Invite hosted by San Jose State University at the Almaden Golf and Country Club in San Jose, Calif.
Edberg recorded her third straight 1-under round of 71 on Tuesday to secure co-medalist honors with Cathleen Santoso of Oregon and New Mexico's Sammi Stevens. Edberg and Stevens were tied at the top of the individual leaderboard entering the second day.
With the victory, Edberg became only the second Titans golfer to earn a medal since the women's golf program was reinstated for the 2009-10 season and the first to medal in a multi-day event. Deidre Crabtree finished first in a dual match for the Titans at Cal State Bakersfield on Feb. 5, 2011.
As for the Titans, Edberg's effort helped the team finish seventh overall as they shot a collective 37-over 901 in the three days. The Titans started the final round in ninth place and shot a 296 in round three to finish tied with Santa Clara and Coastal Carolina. Oregon took the team title with a 12-over 876, two strokes ahead of UC Davis.
Tisha Alyn Abrea came back on the final day and shot her best round of the competition, recording an even-par 72 on Tuesday, She finished with a cumulative score of 225, 9-over par and placing her in a tie for 24th overall in the individual standings.
Seri Lee shot a 2-over 74 on Tuesday to give her a collective 227 over the three rounds; her 11-over par score placing her in a tie for 31st.
Dakota Brown rounded out the Titans performers in round three, recording a 7-over 79, tying her round one performance. She finished with a 22-over 238 and tied for 61st.
The Titans will return to the links on March 24 when they travel to the Farms Inivitational at The Farms Golf Club in Ranch Santa Fe, Calif. The three-day event will be hosted by San Diego State University.
