NEW BRAUNFELS, Tx. – Cal State Fullerton began the spring portion of their 2013-14 season with a fifth-place finish at the Jim West Invitational at Bandit Golf Course hosted by Texas State University in New Braunfels, Tx.
The Titans finished the two-day event with a 67-over par 919 after shooting a 19-over 303 in the third and final round on Tuesday. The Titans finished two shots behind fourth-place Arkansas Little Rock and three shots back of third-place Brigham Young. Gonzaga won the competition with a 26-over par 878, eight shots ahead of hosts Texas State.
Tisha Alyn Abrea was the top performer for the Titans, shooting a 4-over 75 in the third round, matching her opening round performance on Monday. She finished the competition at 16-over after shooting 229 in the three rounds, tying her for 12th place and 17 shots behind medalist Raychelle Santos of Gonzaga who was the only player to break par with a 1-under 212.
Seri Lee matched Abrea's performance with a 16-over performance for the competition. She entered the final day at 12-over after the first two rounds and shot a 4-over 75 in round three, tying Abrea for the best round of the day for the Titans. She also finished in a tie for 12th place, marking her highest placing of the season, surpassing her 13th place finish at the Cowgirl Desert Invitational in October.
Makayla Mier, who had the best round of any Titans golfer with a 3-over 74 in round one, finished in a tie for 16th place overall after shooting a 230 for the competition. She shot a 7-over 78 in round three, matching her second round performance.
Martina Edberg placed in a tie for 20th overall after her 6-over 77 in Tuesday's final round put her at 232 for the competition while Dakota Brown saved her best round for last, shooting a 6-over 77 in round three.
This was the Titans final trip outside the state of California this season. They will return to action on March 3 when they head to the Julie Inkster Spartan Invitational at the Almaden Golf and Country Club in San Jose.
