Titans Fall to Hawai'i on the Road

HONOLULU, Hi. – Cal State Fullerton women's basketball fell to Hawai'i Thursday night at the Stan Sheriff Center after a neck-and-neck contest throughout all four quarters. The Titans have now dropped six consecutive games.

The Titans started the game off slowing, falling behind 11-4 early on in the game. However, Hannah Thompson got things go for the Titans offensively in the first quarter, hitting her first three shots from behind the three-point line.

Junior center Daeja Smith got into foul trouble early, forcing her to sit for most of the first quarter. When Smith returned in the second, she immediately made her presence felt, scoring 8 points on 3-5 shooting heading into the locker room at halftime.

Smith finished the contest with a team-high 18 points on 5-8 shooting while going a perfect 8-8 from the free-throw line. Smith also added seven rebounds in 25 minutes of action. Foul trouble was the only thing that could slow down Smith who averages 31 minutes of playing time throughout the season.

Sarah Toeaina, who leads Hawai'i in points per game, led the Rainbow Wahine once again offensively with 21 points on 8-11 shooting from the field.

Late in the fourth both teams offense picked up, starting a back-and-forth contest in which there were five lead changes in five possessions. Fullerton, however, wasn't able to put together a late run to overcome the defeciet.

Fullerton looks to bounce back and put and to its losing streak Saturday when it hosts UC Santa Barbara at Titan Gym with tip-off at 6 p.m. PT.
