IRVINE, Calif. – Freshman Michelle Berry claimed Big West Athlete of the Week honors after a spectacular collegiate debut, scoring 38 points against Portland State on Friday night to lead the Titans to their first season-opening victory since 2011.
Berry garnered AOTW honors after setting a freshman program record of 38 points and the accolades are the first in Titan history to be earned by a freshman.
The 6-2 forward was 13-of-27 shooting while chipping in eight rebounds and five assists in the 84-69 win over Portland State.
The freshman was one of only two players to play all 40 minutes on Friday night.
In the two exhibition games for the Titans, Berry accumulated 41 points and 14 rebounds en route to two wins against Cal State L.A. and Hope International.
The Titans return to action tomorrow night as they head to Los Angeles to take on the Loyola Marymount Lions. Tip-off is scheduled for 7 p.m.
